Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, many questions about the deal have arisen. One question is whether Call of Duty will remain on Playstation or be an Xbox exclusive.
More of a Bittersweet Ending
Following a hard-fought battle from Sony for over a year now, it finally came to an end with Xbox emerging victorious. There is still some light at the end of the tunnel though. After the loss, Sony decided to sign a 10-year deal with Microsoft to have Call of Duty remain on PlayStation consoles. Official confirmation can be found on Phil Spencer’s, the Head of Xbox, Twitter account.
What Does This Mean for PlayStation?
As it currently stands, PlayStation players won’t have to worry about Call of Duty being a console exclusive for 10 years. After that, there’s no telling what Microsoft might do with the franchise. Like with past Call of Duty titles, there might be some console-exclusive features such as maps or skins for Xbox players. However, that’s just speculation for the time being.
The Original Deal
Back in January 2022, Microsoft offered Sony a deal that would keep “all existing Activision console titles on Sony, including future versions in the Call of Duty franchise or any other current Activision franchise on Sony through December 31st, 2027.” With Sony wanting to push back against the acquisition, the deal changed to just a Call of Duty extension now.
Is Call of Duty On Xbox Game Pass?
As of today, there is no official confirmation of Call of Duty coming to Xbox Game Pass. With older Call of Duty servers being fixed, there is however speculation that players will see its arrival come around October 2023 when the merger fully goes through.
