The largest event in Call of Duty history commences Wednesday. The biggest prize pool in Call of Duty history is on the line. The Huntsmen face their toughest challenge of the season. They debut Champs on Friday, August 21 in the winners round two against the winner of the Subliners and ROKKR matchup. Chicago certainly had issues to work out after CDL Toronto. The Huntsmen do not have much room for error and will need to start hot to keep their championship dreams alive.
Call of Duty Championship Preview
New York Subliners (13-17) or Minnesota ROKKR (12-16)
The New York Subliners have drastically improved since the start of Modern Warfare. Their move to cut Zer0 from the roster and add Mack paid dividends. Their roster meshed well together and appeared to hit a peak late in the season. Subliners vs. Huntsmen matches provided incredible drama from start to finish this season. Whether it was thin margins of defeat or reverse sweeps, fans were always in for a treat. Both teams had their ups and downs this year. The respawn game modes are likely going to come down to the last 30-60 seconds. Similar to the earlier matches in the season, the team that makes the fewest errors while executing will likely come out on top.
Minnesota ROKKR have been on a steady decline. Moving online significantly affected the performance of their best performer GodRx. The ROKKR dropped GodRx ahead of Champs this year in hopes of improving their performance. The ROKKR struggled the most in Search and Destroy. Minnesota are failing to get the momentum going and are not giving teams a tough time. The Huntsmen will definitely prefer to play the ROKKR in the second round.
Next Round Matchup
The Huntsmen will either play the Atlanta FaZe in the winners round three or any one of the following teams: New York, Minnesota, OpTic Gaming, Guerrillas. In the only meeting between FaZe and Huntsmen, Chicago looked unstoppable. They crushed Atlanta and rose to the occasion. Chicago even beat Atlanta 6-1 in Search and Destroy, where FaZe are the best team in the league. On the losers bracket side, there are too many scenarios to speculate at the moment. The Huntsmen’s next match will surely be full of action given how few teams are competing at Champs.
Player to Watch: FormaL
FormaL is great, but Champs FormaL is legendary. It is widely known that FormaL performs best at Champs. His 1.60+ K/D ratio at Infinite Warfare Champs was arguably the best performance in tournament history. The Huntsmen will be counting on FormaL to start hot in this new AR meta. FormaL has recently been posting a very high K/D ratio at tournaments. If Chicago are to make it far at Champs, FormaL cannot skip a beat.
Prediction: Chicago beat New York 3-2, Chicago beat Minnesota 3-0
The Huntsmen likely made the necessary changes to make a deep run at Champs. This is why Chicago will prevail in the first round. Chicago will likely go the distance with New York. Most of their matches have been highly contested. Given the environment it is very likely the match will be extremely competitive. Chicago dominated Minnesota early in the season even when they were at their peak. Given the ROKKR have been on a steady decline, it is highly likely the Huntsmen will be able to take care of business in dominating fashion.
