One thing is apparent, ego is an issue for OpTic. Ego and the issue of thinking one is the best have always been a problem within the Call of Duty League. Specifically, ego is a problem for one of the most storied teams in Call of Duty history, OpTic. There have been many times where one person on the team on OpTic thought that they were the best and wanted everything for themselves because of that thought.
One specific past issue that was talked about just last week was the issue of Matthew “Formal” Piper having a huge ego taking all the bonuses from winning the Most Valuable Player award for the 2017 Call of Duty League season. This was specifically bad due to the players that were included which were Seth “Scump” Abner, Ian “Crimsix” Porter, and Damon “Karma” Barlow, which were a part of the most famous team in Call of Duty, quite simply known as “The Dynasty”.
The players, before the world championship, made an agreement to split the bonuses if one of them were to win the M.V.P. After Formal won the award, he then decided upon himself to take all the winnings for himself because he thought that he deserved it since he “carried the team”. That was only one of the major issues with ego that OpTic has faced over the years. However, now, they face a new issue of ego, only this time, it is in-game.
Ego Challenging for OpTic Players
This time around for OpTic, they face an issue of ego within the actual game of Call of Duty. That issue is what is known as ego-challenging people within the game. Players like Scump and Dylan “Envoy” Hannon are known for ego challenging people within the game as they are known to be hyper-aggressive players.
This, consequently, led to a lot of times where ego challenging caused the team to lose in very winnable situations. Although they are not the only team to ego challenge people, they are the most known to ego challenge without success. Therefore, it is very noticeable to many OpTic fans and supporters.
Specifically, it was a problem and very noticeable for the past two stages as they lost to teams that the team should have won against like the Seattle Surge. However, due to OpTics’ ego, the team ended up losing in a horrible fashion. Ego could be an issue for OpTic Chicago.
What is an Ego Challenge?
An ego challenge has been a staple in many first-person shooter games such as Call of Duty. In Call of Duty, players are synonymous with challenging every possible player in every angle they can.
An ego challenge is when the player decides to push aggressively and challenge the opposing player in a gunfight. It is usually a “hard” ego challenge when a player pushes an opposing person when low health. This, consequently, is what OpTic does on a regular basis, only their players lose the majority of those gunfights when it matters most.
What Can be Done for OpTic?
Ego challenging someone is what OpTic players have done every single season. Only now, the team’s most storied players, Scump and Formal, are not what they used to be. Envoy and Brandon “Dashy” Otell are not the new duo that the team needs in order to step up their gameplay. Without ego challenging so much, who knows what heights this team can get up to.
