CDL Profiles: Joey the G

The Call of Duty League is beginning to be very diverse when it comes to its professional players within its league. One region, in particular, that is being heavily looked at for up-and-coming talent in Europe. With that, there are many players that are looking to take the league by storm. One such player is 20 year old Joey “Gismo” Owen from the United Kingdom. Here is a deep dive into a new series of CDL Profiles: Joey the G. 

Owen was born on December 5, 2001 in England. He started playing video games at a very early age as he loved the aspect of winning in games. At first, he started off by playing a campaign within the games. It was not until Call of Duty, where he found the competition to be his calling. 

Advanced Warfare 

Gismo’s first year of competitive Call of Duty started with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare in 2015. He played in his first sanctioned tournament at Am 2 Pro Omnia where he placed 13th-16th alongside Alexx, another talented player from the region. 

Black Ops 3 

He then later competed in a couple of Call of Duty Black Ops 3 tournaments at the end of 2015 and the start of 2016. In these two tournaments, AM 2 Pro Peterborough and SFCO BOIII 2, he placed 7th-8th and 3rd respectively. 

These two tournaments are also where Gismo joined his first two pro teams. These two being Eye 4 Esports and Exertus Esports Youth. Additionally, by getting a 3rd place finish, he got his first taste of prize money by sharing a 1000 euro prize. 

Infinite Warfare

He also went into two tournaments, Gfinity Infinite Warfare Launch and SFCO SCUF 5k, with a 5th-8th and 2nd place finish(1,500 euro prize). This is also where he played for his third team, DCypher Esports. 

World War Two

With the start of Call of Duty: World War Two, there were a lot of roster changes to a lot of teams within the Call of Duty scene. With that, he joined Cryptick Gaming. The first major team he signed for. In the World War Two Season, he played in five tournaments. With that he placed 2nd twice and got his first win, adding two tournament wins. 

Black Ops 4

In this year of Call of Duty, he added to his tally for tournament wins by getting three more wins with Cryptick Gaming. He also added one more after leaving Cryptick Gaming in October of that year. 

Modern Warfare 

In the first years of the Modern Warfare season, he had a lot of short stints with many amateur teams. He even got another win at the beginning of the season. After placing well, he got offered two join another major European amateur team at the time in Electrify Esports. 

Team Singularity 

After a lot of great placements in tournaments and a stint on Team Sween. He then got noticed by European powerhouse, Team Singularity, who picked him up later in the season. With the team, he placed top 3 eight times with a 3rd place finish in the European Challengers Finals. 

Cold War and House Tarth

After his great stint with Team Singularity, he then joined House Tarth, a team that was destined to be great from the beginning. This is due to teaming with Defrag, Afro, and Weeman. With House Tarth, he won four more tournaments. 

Orgless 

After playing for House Tarth, Joey the G then gained the attention of the amateur team known as Orgless. He eventually joined the team in the latter stages of the Cold War season. Gismo and his team won six tournaments and even won the European Challengers Finals as well, getting his first semi-major tournament victory under the Atlas Lions. 

Vanguard and Beyond

After an already storied career having played for teams like Team Singularity and Orgless, he then got noticed by the London Royal Ravens. They realized how special he was. In that, he has 21 tournament victories to his name. The victories were not the only things London noticed. They also noticed his work ethic as well as gun skill across all the Call of Duty games he played before. 

At 20 years old, Gismo is looking to set the league on fire with his incredible raw talent. He could very well be the thing the London Royal Ravens need in order to jumpstart their franchise to new heights. With him alongside the likes of Nastie, Afro, and Zer0, they could very well surprise the league in its entirety. One thing is for certain, there will be nothing stopping Joey the G.
