The Call of Duty season will officially begin January 24th. Twelve teams will face off in numerous events this spring and summer to determine who is the best. The stage is set for launch weekend in Minnesota on January 24th. The question remains: who will take launch weekend? And who will win the entire season? Lets dive into the COD League Power Rankings as we sit in preseason now.
COD League Power Rankings
12: Paris Legion
To be honest, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of things going for the Legion going into the COD season. Five players, none of which have a known name or have any major championships to show for themselves. Neither does the coach. All fans can possibly hope for are for some stellar individual performances and some of the players to find their footing. The Legion have a shot at possibly picking up matches against better opponents that aren’t having the best day. Other than that, Legion fans don’t have much to look forward to this year.
11: Toronto Ultra
Sadly, the Ultra seem to have a similar fate to the Legion. The only reason that the Ultra find themselves above the Legion is that “Methodz” should bring something to the Ultra, and could possibly spur some momentum. Other than that, the Ultra will most likely be playing spoiler this season and simply getting some experience in this new format.
10: London Royal Ravens
The Royal Ravens are at the front of the bottom 3, but none of these three have much chance of doing anything this season. The Royal Ravens do have Bradley “wuskin” Marshall and Dylan “Dylan” Henderson, both from Team Reciprocity. Team Reciprocity had some success in the 2019 CDL Season, so wuskin and Dylan have a chance to do some damage this season.
9: Minnesota RØKKR
The RØKKR have a pretty strong roster going into this season. Adam “Assault” Garcia and Justin “SiLLY” Fargo-Palmer, hailing from Envy, had a pretty good 2019 season. However, the player to watch for on the RØKKR is Adam “GodRx” Brown. He had a breakout season last year, and with some good teammates to accompany him, GodRx should have a great season. The Minnesota RØKKR are the first team in these power rankings that have a real-world chance at winning.
8: OpTic Gaming Los Angeles
This may come as a shock for most. At face value, this team should be within the top three. Brandon “Dashy” Otell has the most championship rings in the world at three, and Thomas “TJHaLy” Haly had a fantastic season last year. Them two, alongside Kenny “Kenny” Williams and Austin “SlasheR” Liddicoat, both former 100 Thieves members, and Jordan “JKap” Kaplan from Evil Geniuses, should make a formidable team. However, after watching some scrims against the Mutineers and other teams, OpTic was struggling a lot. It may simply be because they are figuring out the new roster, or that someone isn’t quite fitting into their setup. This definitely will or at least should be figured out before Week 1.
7: Florida Mutineers
The Mutineers have some proving to do. This is the first roster with a player from the current champions, eUnited. Preston “Prestinni” Sanderson will need to take point on this team and show these players what is needed to take a title home. Another thing going for the Mutineers are Colt “Havok” McLendon and Chance “Maux” Moncivaez. Both formerly from Gen.G, a roster that was commonly called the OpTic killers. This may come in handy when facing the Hunstmen, Empire, Surge, or this new OpTic roster. The Mutineers roster has some potential to do really well this season, but Prestinni needs to inspire some individual playmaking in the other players for them to succeed.
6: New York Subliners
The Subliners have an extremely promising roster. More than half of the roster comes from FaZe. Thomas “ZooMaa” Paparatto and Trei “Zer0” Morris are from FaZe, and Dillon “Attach” Price was on loan from FaZe to Evil Geniuses. Alongside Attach’s teammate Lamar “Accuracy” Abedi and Splyce’s Donovan “Temp” Laroda, the Subliners should be a tough task for any team. Attach holds the record for the youngest player to receive a championship ring at 18 years old. Both Temp and Attach were designated All-Stars last season, and each of the other players hold MVPs from different events.
5: Seattle Surge
The Seattle Surge are the first team on this Power Rankings of all big household names. Damon “Karma” Barlow brings the OpTic dominance from last season. Ian “Enable” Wyatt and Sam “Octane” Larew bring an explosiveness and aggression that 100 Thieves were known for last season. Josiah “Slacked” Berry was one of the huge carries of the Luminosity team last season. Bryan “Apathy” Zhelyazkov brings two championship rings to the table. Once the team dynamic begins to flow, they have the chance of being at the top.
4: Los Angeles Guerrillas
The Los Angeles Guerillas have a very strong slate of players, and this should be a fun squad to watch grow over this season. Even though the Guerrillas don’t have any raining champions, they do have a couple rings of their own, those of Patrick “ACHES” Price. ACHES will be the backbone of this team and he has what it takes to teach this squad how to get him another. Ulysses “AquA” Silva has many good placements in past seasons, but hasn’t been able to clinch a championship yet.
3: Atlanta FaZe
The Atlanta roster is a squad that no team should look forward to battling. Tyler “aBeZy” Pharris and Chris “Simp” Lehr are from the infamous eUnited squad. McArthur “Cellium” Jovel brings the flare and unpredictability from the former FaZe roster. Michael “MajorManiak” Szymaniak had strong placements all over last season with Gen.G. Finally, Preston “Priestahh” Greiner brings the aggression and dominance that was the 100 Thieves roster last year. With some team cohesion, this team may find itself on top towards the end of this season.
2: Dallas Empire
The Dallas Empire, in addition to Atlanta, are the two true threats to the Huntsmen. James “Clayster” Eubanks has nearly 10 years of Call of Duty experience and was on last year’s eUnited roster. Clayster has been a dominant force in COD for a long time, and this should persist this season. Additionally, the other player to look out for is Ian “Crimsix” Porter. Crimsix was on the OpTic roster last year, and was a dominant force. Also, Crimsix was outspoken about maturity issues on that roster. It appears he has a vendetta against the other OpTic members, so it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out against the Huntsmen, OpTic, and the Surge.
1: Chicago Huntsmen
This was the easiest choice for them all. The Huntsmen have everything going for them. A star-studded roster and a stellar coach. There really is no reason that the Huntsmen can’t take the title this year and for years to come. Seth “Scump” Abner is a master of all. He is an All-Star, has several MVPs, a championship ring and over 10 years of COD experience. If that weren’t enough, he has been paired with his T2P partner, Matthew “FormaL” Piper. Alec “Arcitys” Sanderson is a raining champion. Dylan “Envoy” Hannon was on Gen.G last year with consistent placements, and Pierce “Gunless” Hillman has been a ridiculously consistent player for Luminosity and Envy the past couple of years. This team is a dominant force, and it is tough to envision any team taking them down. Not to mention, they are lead by head coach Hector “H3CZ” Rodriguez.
