Call of Duty League Championship Weekend kicks off on Thursday with a match between the Minnesota Rokkr and the reigning champion Dallas Empire. Atlanta FaZe look to win after a disappointing Major Five and failing to win the championship the previous year. The Dallas Empire are looking to repeat to win their sixth Call of Duty League Championship. The Toronto Ultra and Florida Mutineers are looking to win their first championship.
Atlanta FaZe Look to Dominate After Disappointing Stage Five Major
The Atlanta FaZe showed they are not invincible in the Stage Five Major after losing to the Minnesota Rokkr and the Seattle Surge. The first-place team never lost two games in a row until this point in the season.
The Atlanta FaZe are the league-wide favorites to win the championship. With this spectacular season, the team finished over 100 points ahead of the second place Toronto Ultra. They also won three majors and lost three times in the group stages. But the last major showed they can lose to teams they should have beaten.
Their failure to win in the Stage Five Major shows an important problem that should be noticed and fixed before the playoffs. The Minnesota Rokkr and the Seattle Surge aren’t the best of teams in the league, and it seems the Atlanta FaZe took their foot off the gas. Although their loss to the Seattle Surge went to a Game Five, it should not have gotten there in the first place if they were playing like in the regular season. When the Atlanta FaZe face the winner of the New York Subliners and Chicago OpTic, they need to floor it and prove why they are the best. They are trying to accomplish what they couldn’t last year, according to Tyler “Abezy” Pharris from an interview in Stage Four.
“This year, we’re going to do our best to hopefully accomplish that and win this year,” Abezy says.
If they want to win the Call of Duty League Championship, the Atlanta FaZe need to show up more than they did in Stage Five. The Atlanta FaZe face the winner of the New York Subliners and Chicago OpTic on Friday, August 20 at 4:30 PM ET.
The Dallas Empire Attempt to Become Repeat Champions
The Dallas Empire are attempting to become repeat champions and win their sixth Call of Duty Championship Ring. The team placed third in the regular-season standings and will face the Minnesota Rokkr in the first round.
The Dallas Empire had a good regular season campaign, winning 26 matches and placing second in two majors. Throughout the season the Dallas Empire was near or at the top in the five stages, and were competitive with the best teams. Their path to the finals is a little easier. Barring an upset by the Minnesota Rokkr, the Dallas Empire could go far in this championship. The second-round match versus the Toronto Ultra would prove to be a tough one. However, they have beaten the Toronto Ultra a majority of the time this season. A match versus the Atlanta FaZe might be their downfall, but could come back in the loser’s bracket and face the Atlanta FaZe in a repeat of the 2020 finals.

Toronto Ultra and Florida Mutineers Try to Win Their First Championship
The Toronto Ultra and Florida Mutineers look to win their first championship. The Toronto Ultra placed second in the regular season and earned a bye to the second round. The Florida Mutineers placed eighth and are playing the loser of the Chicago OpTic and New York Subliners.
The Toronto Ultra have proved themselves to be a great team this season. Although they failed to win the Stage Five Major, they leapfrogged the Dallas Empire to be in the second round. The Toronto Ultra showed up later in the regular season. After going 3-7 across the first two stages, they won the Stage Two Major over the Atlanta FaZe. The Toronto Ultra swept Stage Three and solidified themselves as a solid team, finishing in second place.
The Florida Mutineers have been a middle-of-the-pack team throughout the regular season. They placed eighth in the league and made the cutoff for the playoffs. Although they have not been a phenomenal team, they have made their way to the playoffs. However, their path to the finals will be a tricky one since either team they face in the first round will be a difficult match. This team does have a chance to win it all, but they will have one of the tougher paths to the finals.
The Toronto Ultra face the winner of the Dallas Empire and Minnesota Rokkr on Friday, August 20 at 3:00 ET. The Florida Mutineers will face the loser of the Chicago OpTic and New York Subliners on Thursday, August 19 at 7:30 PM ET.
