The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired Wilson Ramos from the Tampa Bay Rays according to ESPN’s Buster Onley and MLB.com.
Ramos will help bring offense to the catcher position for the Phillies. Philadelphia has started two young players behind the dish in Jorge Alfaro and Andrew Knapp, so Ramos brings more experience and a better bat. Alfaro is hitting .254, while Knapp has an average of .223.
Ramos is batting .297 with 14 home runs and 53 RBIs. He will help the Phillies’ offense immensely, as they are 26th in the league for batting average (.236).
He will not make an immediate impact because he is on the 10 day DL with left hamstring tightness.
Tampa Bay will receive cash or a player to be named later as part of the deal according to Jayson Stark. The Rays are full-blown sellers at this point, as along with Ramos, Chris Archer is still on the block.
