Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and beaten already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology November 28.
CFP Four
1. Georgia Bulldogs (12-0)
Georgia had no troubles with Georgia Tech and will now prepare to play in the SEC Championship Game. They now are likely in the College Football Playoff with a win or a loss in that game, but they will want to eliminate Alabama from contention as early as possible.
This week: vs. Alabama Crimson Tide (11-1) (in Atlanta, GA)
2. Alabama Crimson Tide (11-1)
Alabama needed to go to four overtimes to beat Auburn, but they got the job done to stay alive in the College Football Playoff race. If they beat Georgia they are in.
This week: vs. Georgia Bulldogs (12-0) (in Atlanta, GA)
3. Michigan Wolverines (11-1)
Jim Harbaugh has finally defeated Ohio State. With the win, Michigan just needs to win the Big Ten Championship Game to advance to the College Football Playoff.
This week: vs. Iowa Hawkeyes (10-2) (game in Indianapolis, IN)
4. Cincinnati Bearcats (12-0)
Chaos has ensued in college football this year, which has allowed the Bearcats to get into the top four. If they defeat Houston in the AAC Championship Game, they are a safe bet to be in the College Football Playoff.
This week: vs. Houston Cougars (11-1) (game in Cincinnati, OH)
First Four Out
5. Oklahoma State Cowboys (11-1)
After getting a big top-10 win over Oklahoma, Oklahoma State moves to no. 5. For them to get into the CFP, they have to beat Baylor in the Big 12 Championship Game and have Georgia beat Alabama. After that, if the committee sees them as being better than Notre Dame, they will be in the CFP.
This week: vs. Baylor Bears (10-2) (game in Dallas, TX)
6. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (11-1)
Notre Dame finished off their season with a win over Stanford. Their loss to Cincinnati is one they’ll want to have back when the committee meets for the final time. The schedule wasn’t as good as they expected and now they don’t have a conference championship game to get one more data point for the committee. They’ll be hoping for an Oklahoma State and Alabama loss (and possibly Cincinnati too) in conference championship week.
This week: BYE
7. Baylor Bears (10-2)
A close win over Texas Tech helped Baylor get to the Big 12 Championship Game. While it would take a whole lot to get them into the CFP, Baylor has had a terrific season and should be in a New Year’s Six Bowl.
This week: vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys (10-2) (game in Dallas, TX)
8. Ole Miss Rebels (10-2)
Ole Miss defeated Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl. It is too little, too late for the CFP, but Ole Miss is headed to a New Year’s Six Bowl Game after a tremendous season from Lane Kiffin and co.
This week: BYE
Next Four Out
9. Oregon Ducks (10-2)
The Ducks defeated Oregon State and are now headed to the Pac-12 Championship Game against Utah. A trip to the Rose Bowl will be on the line for these two teams.
This week: vs. Utah Utes (9-3) (game in Las Vegas, NV)
10. Michigan State Spartans (10-2)
In the snow game of the season, Michigan State defeated Penn State to get to 10 wins on the year. The Spartans should be in a New Year’s Six Bowl after a good year with Mel Tucker.
This week: BYE
11. BYU Cougars (10-2)
BYU went undefeated against the Pac-12 with a win over the Pac-12. BYU is likely not going to be in a New Year’s Six Bowl, as Cincinnati will likely be ranked higher them win or lose.
This week: BYE
12. Iowa Hawkeyes (10-2)
After getting up to no. 2 in the rankings, the Hawkeyes lost two straight. They have since won four straight to make it to the Big Ten Championship Game. A win would put them in the Rose Bowl and would knock the Big Ten out of the CFP picture.
This week: vs. Michigan Wolverines (11-1) (game in Indianapolis, IN)
