Week 6 of the 2019 college football season is approaching. Some teams are seeing what works for them, and what doesn’t. When this starts to happen, teams can start to be put on upset alert. Here are 3 teams that can be upset in college football week 6:
All spreads are according to Team Rankings as of Tuesday afternoon.
Ohio State Buckeyes (-19.5)
#25 Michigan State Spartans (4-1) at #4 Ohio State Buckeyes (5-0)
When: Saturday, October 5 | 7:30 PM EST
Watch: ABC
After the Ohio State vs. Nebraska game got hyped up, the Buckeyes crushed them 48-7. This week, Ohio State will be on ABC again against a ranked Michigan State team. Ohio State has beaten all of their opponents by at least 24 points this season, but the Spartans may be the most prepared team for Ohio State so far in 2019.
Michigan State has shown some inconsistency this season. For instance, they scored 51 points in week 2 only to follow it up with 7 points in week 3. Likewise, their defense held Northwestern to 10 on the road, then gave up 31 at home to Indiana. In college football, some teams can get away with this, but not always against an opponent like Ohio State. If both sides of the ball show up and play well, they can find themselves coming away with an upset win in Columbus, shaking up the college football rankings.
Ole Miss Rebels (-7)
Vanderbilt Commodores (1-3) at Ole Miss Rebels (2-3)
When: Saturday, October 5 | 7:30 PM EST
Watch: SEC Network
Ole Miss is coming off an expected loss to Alabama. They were able to put up 31 points, however. Either way, if they linger on the loss, they can lose focus on this weeks game against Vanderbilt.
Vanderbilt is coming off their first win of the season. They beat a notable Northern Illinois program 24-18. Running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn had a big week, going for 138 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. The defense also shut out Northern Illinois in the first half. The Commodores can use this momentum to try and upset the Rebels Saturday evening.
San Diego State Aztecs (-7.5)
San Diego State Aztecs (3-1) at Colorado State Rams (1-4)
When: Saturday, October 5 | 10:00 PM EST
Watch: ESPN2
San Diego State has been in some pretty close games last season, and that has continued this year. They started their season by beating FCS Weber State 6-0, along with a 23-17 loss to Utah State on September 21. It could be risky for a team to keep it close often, and it may even hurt them Saturday night against Colorado State.
The Rams are coming off of a 34-24 road loss to Utah State. They were hanging around for a while, and were even trailing by just a field goal after 3 quarters. This was also the first time all season that Colorado State was held to less than 30 points in a game, and they were on the road in rainy conditions. If they can bring that offensive tempo against SDSU, they’ll give themselves a chance to pick up a big win.
