Here are three teams on upset alert in week 14 of the 2020 college football season.
*Spreads are according to TeamRankings as of Tuesday afternoon.*
Missouri Tigers (-3)
Missouri Tigers (4-3) vs. Arkansas Razorbacks (3-5)
When: Saturday, December 5 | 12:00 PM EST
Watch: SEC Network
For the first season since 2017, the Arkansas Razorbacks have a conference win. They actually have three this year, with a chance to end their regular season with a fourth against Missouri. If they win, they will tie their highest win total since 2017 in three less games.
The Razorbacks are coming off of a close 27-24 loss against LSU. They also lost close a game against Auburn, who was ranked last week. Their most recent win was a 24-13 victory over Tennessee on November 7. They have a chance to win this one, and with all FBS teams being bowl eligible, a win against Missouri can help their chances of a Postseason game.
Missouri is currently 4-3, and they can end their 2020 regular season on a three game winning streak if they beat Arkansas on Saturday. A fifth SEC win will be their most conference wins in a season since 2014 when they went 7-1 in conference play.
The Tigers’ last two wins are against South Carolina (17-10) and Vanderbilt (41-0). Runningback Larry Rountree III had 21 carries for 160 yards and three rushing touchdowns in their win against the Commodores. He now has seven rushing touchdowns in his last four games. He could be a big factor in this game, as the Razorback rushing defense is currently ranked 84 in the FBS.
Kentucky Wildcats (-11.5)
Kentucky Wildcats (3-6) vs. South Carolina Gamecocks (2-7)
When: Saturday, December 5 | 7:30 PM EST
Watch: SEC Network
While both South Carolina and Kentucky under performed expectations for this season, they’ll both have a chance to end the regular season with a win to build on for next year. Kentucky is 1-4 in their last five games, with their only win being against win-less Vanderbilt by a score of 38-35. Their other wins are against Tennessee and Mississippi State, where they allowed a total of nine points in those two games. If they can play like that defensively, it could certainly get them their fourth win of the season.
South Carolina has not won a game since October 17 when they beat Auburn 30-22, who was ranked 15 at the time. They have lost five games in-a-row since, three of which were by at least 28 points. They were 2-2 after the game against Auburn, but their season went downhill quick. They’ll have one more chance for a win this season by upsetting Kentucky in a game where they are double-digit underdogs.
Utah Utes (-11.5)
Utah Utes (0-2) vs. Oregon State Beavers (2-2)
When: Saturday, December 5 | 10:30 PM EST
Watch: ESPN
Oregon State is coming off of a huge 41-38 win over Oregon. Runningback Jermar Jefferson had a big game, rushing for 226 yards and 2 touchdowns in 29 attempts. It’s their first time beating the Ducks since 2016. It brought the club to 2-2 on the year, and an upset win against Utah will have them over .500 through five games. If the Beavers finish this season with a winning record, it will be the first time they did so since 2013, along with their first time over .500 in conference play since 2012.
Utah lost its’ first two games of 2020, and now has to win their last two games to finish at .500 in the regular season. Their most recent loss came against Washington in a game of two very different halves. The Utes went up 21-0 by halftime, but got outscored 24-0 in the second half, making for a 24-21 final. Their first loss came against USC by a score of 33-17. Utah did not score in the second half of that game, either, giving them no second half points through two games. That has them being outscored 33-0 in the second half so far this year. They can change that against the Beavers on Saturday night.
