The NFL season is full of surprises, which makes it hard to pick winners. Cecil Walker and Joe DiTullio, of The Third and the Don Football Show, will do their best to try to predict the winners for every NFL game this season. Here are the NFL Wildcard round picks.
Saturday: Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans
Joe- Both these teams rebounded from slow starts to make the playoffs. Houston is the more complete team, but Andrew Luck is playing well behind a good offensive line. The Texans have historically struggled with the Texans. It will be close, but Luck will lead the Colts to victory.- Colts
Cecil- I have to go with the trends on this one and the Colts have flat out dominated the Texans since their inception in 2002. The Texans have all the makings of a good playoff team, but Andrew Luck is playing on another level and the rest of the Colts are playing better than they ever had.- Colts
Seattle Seahawks at Dallas Cowboys
Joe- No one will ever be able to figure out why some of Dallas’ starters were in the game last week against the Giants. With that being said, Dak Prescott had a good game, which will give him momentum heading into the playoffs. Dallas plays a whole lot better at home and will attempt to control the clock and play defense against a team that likes to play similarly.- Cowboys
Cecil- These teams have similar play styles as they both like to use the power run game and have good, but not great defenses. The X-factor here is Russell Wilson. His experience in the playoffs will allow him to make big plays down the stretch.-Seahawks
Sunday: Los Angeles Chargers at Baltimore Ravens
Joe- The Chargers lost to the Ravens a few weeks ago and have to travel across the country. This game will be different though. Philip Rivers will benefit from having Melvin Gordon back in the lineup and relatively healthy. The offense will be able to score some points and Lamar Jackson will not be able to keep up, despite a solid rookie season.- Chargers
Cecil- Yes the Chargers already lost to the Ravens once this season, but that may have been worth it to get a look at Lamar Jackson and this Ravens offense in action. With that experience, they now have a much better idea of what to gameplan for. The Chargers will contain the Ravens offense enough for Philip Rivers to put together a game-winning drive late in the game. -Chargers
Philadelphia Eagles at Chicago Bears
Joe- Philadelphia has come back from the dead this season, but their luck is about to run out. Chicago’s defense will limit what Nick Foles can do and the Eagles’ running game won’t be able to make up for it. The Bears will win a low scoring game.- Bears
Cecil- This should be the most lopsided of the matchups this weekend, but it does have an added layer of suspense with the small possibility the Eagles start another improbable playoff run under Nick Foles. However, this Eagles team is very different, with many more injuries on the defense. The Bears defense will be just too much to overcome while playing in a hostile Soldier Field.- Bears
