Reid Travis, a graduate of Stanford University, has elected to transfer to the University of Kentucky for his last year of eligibility.
Travis will be immediately eligible, even as a transfer, because he completed his degree at Stanford. He graduated over the weekend and visited Kentucky early this week before making his decision official.
During his time at Stanford, he was an All-Pac-12 player, who was able to average 19.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game last season.
He released a video on twitter stating, “I’m looking forward to a fresh start and continuing to pursue my dreams. Looking for a school, the biggest thing that I wanted was to align both my academic and my athletic interests. After getting to know the staff and the players, it became very clear to me that there was no better place to continue this next step in the journey. I’m excited to work hard every day and give everything of myself to this program so that we can compete for a national championship. Big Blue Nation? Are we ready?”
The 6-foot-8 and 245-pound power forward will have an immediate impact on the Wildcats and will be the most experienced player on the team. He will help fill the void at the forward position that was left by Jarred Vanderbilt, Wenyen Gabriel and Kevin Knox, who headed to the NBA. He will be paired in the frontcourt with P.J. Washington, Nick Richards and E.J. Montgomery.
This transfer has the possibility to change the whole college basketball landscape. Kentucky does have some returning players to pair with the second-best recruiting class (ESPN) in the country, but Travis gives them a proven commodity in the low post. With him, Kentucky should be one of, if not the favorites to win the National Championship in 2019.
