Having a good fantasy draft sets a team up really well, but most of the time to win a fantasy football league, acquisitions need to be made during the season. Each week there are several players worth exploring on the waiver wire. Here are fantasy football players to add week 18. (Note: These are best used for standard scoring leagues. All players are rostered in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
1. Ameer Abdullah, RB, Las Vegas Raiders
Abdullah has three straight great weeks for the Raiders. He scored 12.6 and 14.5 points (standard-scoring) in weeks 15 and 16. The Raiders played the Saints in week 17 and Abdullah stepped up again. He finished the game with 20 carries for 115 yards and three catches for 32 yards.
In week 18, the Raiders play the Los Angeles Chargers. While the Chargers have the chance to get the no. 5 seed this weekend, Abdullah’s ability to run and catch the ball really aids the Raiders’ offense. He can have one more good game to end the season. Abdullah is rostered in 33.4 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. Michael Carter, RB, Arizona Cardinals
James Conner had to leave the week 17 game early. Trey Benson was already out with an injury, so Carter saw a decent amount of work. He finished the game with 13 carries for 70 yards and two catches for 11 yards.
With the Cardinals eliminated from playoff contention, there is no incentive for them to play Conner or Benson in the season finale. It is important to check the injury report to see if there is an off-chance they play. Carter should be added if they are out. He is rostered in 1.1 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. Romeo Doubs, WR, Green Bay Packers
Doubs saw a lot of targets in week 17, which is something that happens when he is healthy. Against the Vikings, Doubs was targeted 11 times. He converted seven catches for 58 yards.
Christian Watson has missed time, which has opened up a little more opportunity for Doubs. If Watson misses week 18, Doubs could have a big game. The Packers still can improve their seed with a win, so they will likely be utilizing Doubs in order to win.
4. Antonio Gibson, RB, New England Patriots
Rhamondre Stevenson has had fumbling issues, which has moved the Patriots to reallocate how they use their running backs. Gibson notched his second-most carries all season with 12. He rushed for 63 yards against the Chargers.
In week 18, the Patriots are playing the Bills, who have nothing to play for. Gibson can get a lot of work and the Patriots should be able to move the ball. He can be added and played in deeper leagues if too many players are sitting. Gibson is rostered in 16.9 percent completion.
5. Marvin Mims, WR, Denver Broncos
Mims has really developed as the season has gone on for the Broncos. He has three double-digit scoring games (standard scoring) in the back half of the season. In week 17 against the Cincinnati Bengals, Mims caught eight passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns.
The Broncos still have to win to make the playoffs. They are playing the Chiefs, who usually have a good defense, but don’t have anything to play for with the no. 1 seed locked up. Mims can have a big game and is only rostered in four percent of ESPN leagues.
