George had an impressive freshman season for the Baylor Bears, despite the team not advancing past the first weekend. Now he is in the 2023 NBA Draft.
Out of high school, George was a five-star prospect out of Texas, who decided to stay in the state to play for the Bears. He averaged 15.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game in his only season with Baylor. His play helped the team earn a no. 3 seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, but they lost in the second round.
Following the NCAA Tournament appearance, George declared for the 2023 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a mid-first-round pick.
Keyonte George Strengths
George is a player that can score from all over the floor. He has the ability to get to the rim well and finishes well. George can pull up from the mid-range and has some nice floaters as well. He wasn’t the most efficient 3-point shooter last season, but showed flashes of being able to knock down shots off the dribble and off of the catch.
He has the ability to create for himself. As mentioned, he can get to the basket by driving in a straight line or by using a little wiggle to get past defenders. He has the ability to create space in the mid-range and from deep as well. George can find ways to get himself open shots.
His defense is also intriguing. He has good foot quickness to stay in front of opponents. George is able to pressure ball handlers into mistakes. his size and wingspan should allow him to guard multiple positions on the perimeter for an NBA team, making him more useful.
Keyonte George Weaknesses
George needs to work on being more efficient. He can start by focusing on hitting shots from deep more consistently. Shooting 33.8 percent from behind the arc isn’t terrible, but he is capable of doing better. He can do a better job of finding the open man and taking smarter shots to help him be a more efficient player.
While he can create for himself, he can struggle to create for others. He averaged 2.8 assists per game and did show some promise in the pick-and-roll, but George also missed open teammates and turned the ball over 2.9 times per game. Protecting the basketball has to be emphasized for him.
George could increase his steal and block production on defense, by showing better off-ball awareness. He doesn’t always recognize where the ball may go and it can cost him. In addition to boosting his own stats, becoming a better off-ball defender will make him a better help defender for the entire defense.
Projected Draft Range: Mid-First-Round Pick
