The 2023 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Joe Tippmann 2023 NFL Draft Profile.
Joe Tippmann Background
Position: Offensive Guard/Center
School: Wisconsin
Size: 6-foot-6, 313 pounds
Class: Redshirt Junior
2022 Stats: Honorable Mention All-Big Ten
Tippmann may not have won many awards or received a lot of accolades during his college career, but he developed into a good player. He is now in the 2023 NFL Draft.
As a recruit out of Indiana, Tippmann was rated as a four-star recruit and signed with Wisconsin. He redshirted in 2019 before playing in two games during the 2020 season. Tippmann jumped into the starting lineup in 2021 and was an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention. His play helped the Badgers go 9-4. Tippmann returned for 2022 and was again named an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention. He played well, but Wisconsin regressed with a 7-6 record.
After opting out of the Guaranteed Rate Bowl, Tippmann declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. He is projected to be a day-two prospect.
Joe Tippmann Strengths
Tippmann has excellent size for a center in the NFL. He stands 6-foot-6 and 313 pounds, which are great measurables. His size is a product of adding a lot of strength to his frame and he knows how to generate power. To go with his size and strength, he has ok arm length too at 32 and 3/4-inch arms.
For his size, Tippmann is a great athlete. He shows good quickness, especially at the snap of the ball. Tippmann shows good reactive quickness as well to recover. His athleticism helps him get to the second level to make blocks and he can pull if needed. Because he is athletic he can play in either a zone or a man-blocking scheme.
He received plenty of experience the last two years and displayed his high football IQ. Tippmann makes pre-snap reads and makes adjustments for the line of scrimmage. He is able to recognize blitzers and pick them up. Tippmann processes quickly and that is an asset NFL teams will love.
Joe Tippmann Weaknesses
Tippmann has a tendency to lower his head and raise his pad level. He needs to keep his head up and his pad level low in order to retain his power. When he stands to upright, power players can take advantage and push him back into the pocket or shed his blocks.
His hand usage can also improve. Tippmann has heavy hands with some strength, but he needs to work on his timing and placement. His hands can get too wide and he can be late to punch. Working on that will make him more effective in sustaining his blocks.
While he is athletic, he is not the most flexible player. He has tight hips, which can make changing directions a bit more difficult. On the interior, this will not be a big issue, as he won’t be playing in space and players can’t bend around the edge on him.
Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick
