For the third time, in its four year life, the Big East-Big 12 Battle ends in a tie. Every home team in the 2022 edition was the victor, and only two of the 10 games were within single-digits when the clock hit 0.0.
The biggest winner of the event was No. 2 Texas, who defeated then No. 7 Creighton. The Longhorns snuck away with a 72-67 victory over the Bluejays, after great performances by Marcus Carr and Tyrese Hunter. Creighton’s Ryan Kalkbrenner did everything he could, scoring 20 points, 13 rebounds, and going 9/10 from the field. Ryan Nembhard logged 17 for the Bluejays, and SDSU transfer Baylor Scheierman scored 11 of his 13 points within the last 3:36 of the game, almost completing a Creighton comeback.
The biggest loser of the event was Baylor, who was No. 6 when they played Marquette on Tuesday, and are now No. 12 in the AP top 25 after the loss and beating Gonzaga on Friday. The Bears lost by 26 to the Golden Eagles, 96-70. Once again, Baylor’s three guard lineup of Adam Flagler, LJ Cryer and Keyonte George all scored in double-digits, but a lack of production from other members turned out poorly for the Bears. However, Marquette had a 24-point performance from Olivier-Maxence Prosper, a 20-point performance from Cam Jones, and a 19-point performance from David Joplin. Getting over 60 points combined from just three players is for sure a recipe for success, and that showed for Marquette.
Other notable results happened in the event. TCU got a 13-point win over a solid Providence team. Texas Tech got a bounce back win against Georgetown after losing to Ohio State in Maui. UConn continues to roll, beating Oklahoma State by 10. Jordan Hawkins had 26 points for the Huskies. Kansas crushed Seton Hall by 26. Six players for Kansas scored in double-figures. Villanova got its first signature win of the season against Oklahoma. Xavier, behind a 23-point performance from Souley Boum, beat West Virginia by 10. Lastly, Iowa State improves its resume by easily beating St. Johns.
There were eight other games besides those two. The games were spread out from Tuesday to Saturday last week. Here are the rest of the results from the 2022 Big East-Big 12 Battle.
