The preseason AP Top 25 Poll for the 2022-23 men’s college basketball season has been released. The national runner-up North Carolina Tar Heels, after returning most players from their magical run, are ranked No. 1 with 47 of 62 first-place votes. This is the 10th time the Tar Heels are preseason No. 1, breaking a tie with rival Duke.
The Gonzaga Bulldogs received 12 first-place votes to grab the No. 2 spot. The No. 3 Houston Cougars got 1 first-place vote, and the Kentucky Wildcats got 2 first-place votes for the No. 4 spot.
The reigning national champion Kansas and other Big 12 powerhouse Baylor are tied to round out the top five, or six you could say. The rest of the top 10 consists of Duke, UCLA, Creighton, and Arkansas.
There are 10 different conferences who have at least one team ranked in the preseason poll: A-10 (1), AAC (1), ACC (3), Big 10 (3), Big 12 (5), Big East (2), Mountain West (1), PAC-12 (3), SEC (5), WCC (1).
