With the Kansas City Chiefs 2022 Preseason officially over, TGH takes a look at Chiefs Preseason standouts. And how the players players performed in three games this preseason.
3. George Karlaftis, DE
George Karlaftis is a rookie defensive end that the Kansas City Chiefs picked up in the tail end of the first round. Karlaftis was brought in to do one thing, pressure quarterbacks. He did just that this preseason. In two games the rookie recorded two sacks in limited playing time. While in the game Karlaftis was often seen around the ball at all times which is a good trait to have at his position.
It is still unclear of how much playing time the first-round pick will see right away. Although, the Chiefs still have Karlaftis listed as a second string right behind the three-year-man Mike Danna. Karlaftis will more than likely see plenty of rotation snaps to start the season, and if he proves himself he will be a starter sooner rather than later.
2. Skyy Moore, WR
Many eyes were fixed on rookie wide-out Skyy Moore this preseason as he was a very interesting prospect this offseason. Moore did everything right this preseason. Moore only saw four targets in his limited time but racked up three catches for 23 yards. Two of his three catches were very impressive, as he showed the hands that got him to the NFL. Also, Moore handled the majority of the punt returns where he seems to be a real weapon on special teams.
Moore is currently fourth on the Chiefs’ depth chart and will also see rotational snaps in this offense. Currently, there is not a clear path for Moore to move up the depth chart as the three players above him are experienced veterans who are solid players. For now, Moore will have to continue to impress every chance he gets and make explosive plays on special teams.
1. Isiah Pacheco, RB
Not many expected seventh-round pick, Isiah Pacheco, to produce this quickly. But, the product out of Rutgers has been the star of training camp and the preseason. Pacheco has raced up the depth chart, with many thinking he may even pass Clyde Edwards-Helaire as the starter. Now realistically, Pacheco will still have to prove that he can handle the speed of the NFL. This preseason Pacheco saw very limited reps mainly with the starters and the second team.
In the last preseason game, he played more and still continued to impress. Pacheco racked up 16 rushes for 66 yards while receiving three catches for 21 yards. There are still many things Pacheco needs to work on. There was one play this preseason where Patrick Mahomes was frustrated with him as he missed a large hole to run through.
Time will ultimately tell if this running back can be the steal of the draft or not. But many believe that we will see more of Pacheco sooner rather than later and that this rookie can have a large impact on the field this season. Pacheco has been by far the biggest of the Chiefs’ preseason standouts.
