This article will be a continuation of NBA offseason team grades. It will go over some more teams that had a lacking, or an effective offseason. This is the NBA Offseason Team Grades Pt. 2.
San Antonio Spurs: B+
The Spurs were a big name earlier in the offseason. They traded away their first-time all-star in Dejounte Murray to the Hawks in exchange for a plethora of first-round picks and Danilo Gallinari. Besides that, the Spurs haven’t made many moves excluding the signing of Gorgui Dieng. However, they did sign Isaiah Roby, who is a 24-year-old forward that can do virtually anything on the court. They were busy on draft night, as they signed three first-rounders in Jeremy Sochan, Malaki Branham, Blake Wesley and second-rounder Kennedy Chandler (later traded to Memphis). They may not be done making moves just yet, as Jakob Poeltl, Josh Richardson and Doug McDermott are also on the chopping block. This season is going to be very different for Spurs fans.
Brooklyn Nets: C-
This has definitely been one of the offseason’s ever for this team. The Nets have been a mess ever since Kevin Durant announced his desire to be traded. They lost Bruce Brown in free agency without ever making an offer, traded away a first-round pick for Royce O’Neal of all people, and may potentially lose all three of James Harden, Durant and Irving all in one season. They did have a good signing in TJ Warren. In his last full season, Warren averaged 19.8 points, 4.2 boards, 1.5 dimes, 1.2 steals, and 0.5 blocks a game on 54% from the field, 40% from three and 81% from the line. It’s a very low-risk high-reward signing so good for them for getting the deal done. Still, the offseason for the Nets has been a disaster to say the least.
Oklahoma City Thunder: A+
The Thunder had one of the best drafts this year. This offseason, they were able to land Chet Holmgren, Ousmane Dieng, Jaylin WIlliams, and Jalen Williams. They also re-signed Lu Dort and Kenrich Williams to four-year extensions. Unfortunately, they also released Isaiah Roby due to the depth they have in their front court. Still, the team has had a very strong off-season and the fact that they have three more first-rounders on their roster makes them that much more dangerous (in terms of getting Victor Wembanyama next year). Holmgren has the potential to be a perennial all-star in his career, so congrats to the Thunder for landing him.
Houston Rockets: A
The Rockets have had a strong offseason as well. They had a fantastic draft as they landed Jabari Smith Jr., Tari Eason, and Tyty Washington Jr. They also traded away Christian Wood to the Mavericks. This trade opens up a ton of playing time for second-year players Alperen Sengun and Usman Garuba. This season is going to be very fun for the Rockets. They have a revamped roster along with second-year players Josh Christopher, Sengun and Jalen Green. Expect this team to have nothing to play for except ping pong balls next season.
