While the 2022 NFL Draft is still far off in the distance, players that will be drafted early are on the field now. Each week presents unique matchups for draft prospects and this week is no different. Here are NFL Draft prospects to watch in college football week 6.
1. Rasheed Walker, OT, Penn State Nittany Lions
Penn State has started the season off undefeated and now has a big matchup against Iowa. The game will be a physical one that will likely go down to the wire. Penn State is going to need their offensive line to step up in a tough environment on the road. That includes Rasheed Walker, the left tackle for the Nittany Lions.
Walker has great measurables at 6-foot-6 and 325 pounds. He has helped Penn State pass for 286 yards and rush 132.6 yards per game. He is good at run blocking and has improved as a pass blocker over his career. Against Iowa, who will be trying to continue their impressive run of forcing turnovers, Walker will need to be at his best.
2. Perrion Winfrey, DL, Oklahoma Sooners
The Oklahoma Sooners have started the season off undefeated, albeit in an underwhelming fashion. They have a lot of areas to improve and their defense needs to be more consistent. With Perrion Winfrey on the defensive line, that may become a little easier to put out more successful performances. So far on the season, he has four tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.
In a rivalry game against Texas, Winfrey can be a huge difference-maker. He has the ability to attack gaps really well because of his ability to quickly jump at the snap of the ball. Against Texas, Winfrey can help slow down Bijan Robinson, the Texas star running back. A good game can help solidify him as a first or second-round pick.
3. Jerrion Ealy, RB, Ole Miss Rebels
Ole Miss started off the year hot, but are coming off of a loss to Alabama. There is no shame in that, but their offense will look to get back on track. Jerrion Ealy will help with that as one of the best running backs in the 2022 NFL Draft class. Through four games, Ealy has 206 rushing yards, 79 receiving yards and one total touchdown.
This week, the Rebels are playing Arkansas. The winner of the game has a chance to put themselves in a good position behind Alabama in the SEC West. A difference in the game (other than quarterback Matt Corral) could be Ealy. The running back is speedy and can cause problems for the Arkansas defense. A good game could help his stock, but he is likely a mid-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
4. Jalen Catalon, S, Arkansas Razorbacks
Arkansas surprised some with their early-season success, but then dropped a game to Georgia in a bad performance. Their defense wasn’t so much the problem as the offense, but they still need to improve. Jalen Catalon has been a great defender for the Razorbacks. The safety had 37 total tackles, one tackle for loss, two interceptions and three passes defended.
The Razorbacks will need their secondary at their best against the high-scoring Ole Miss offense and quarterback Matt Corral. Catalon already has two interceptions on the year and if he can force some more turnovers, Arkansas could win the game. He is currently seen as a day-two prospect, but continued success will only help his stock.
5. Isaiah Spiller, RB, Texas A&M Aggies
Although they came into the season highly ranked, Texas A&M hasn’t had quite the year they thought they would. They have plenty of NFL-level talent on the field though, including running back Isaiah Spiller. So far this season, Spiller has 445 rushing yards, 106 receiving yards and three total touchdowns. His performance is even more impressive given that the Aggies have been with a backup quarterback for most of the season.
In week 6, the Aggies will need Spiller at his best if they have any chance against Alabama. The Crimson Tide have a tough defense, that could stifle Spiller and the rushing attack. A good game against Alabama could help Spiller be the first running back taken in the 2022 NFL Draft. He is currently seen as a day two prospect.
