1. Matt Corral, QB, Ole Miss Rebels
Ole Miss as a team did not look good against Alabama and lost 42-21. Although the team struggled, Corral did what he could to protect the ball and move the offense. He finished the day going 21/29 passing for 213 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. Corral did lose a fumble, but his performance was still a solid one in the loss.
After a solid start to the season, Corral has put himself right at the forefront of the conversation to be the first quarterback selected in the 2022 NFL Draft. Ole Miss will still have plenty of big games that Corral has to show up for, but his improvement this year has been astonishing.
2. Josh Jobe, CB, Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama dominated and got the win over Ole Miss this week. It was a good performance on both sides of the ball, as they scored 42 points and limited a high-powered offense to just 21 points. Jobe played solidly, even if it won’t show up in the stat line. He finished the game with just one tackle, but played a part in limiting what Ole Miss could do through the air.
One thing that Jobe needs to work on is his nack for committing penalties. A pass interference call on him allowed Alabama to score late in the game. If he can fix that, his stock will improve. He is still a projected second-day pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
3. Kyle Hamilton, S, Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Notre Dame got off to a slow start and it cost them, as they fell to Cincinnati at home. The defense battled hard and only allowed 24 points. Hamilton was the best player on that side of the field for the Fighting Irish, which is nothing new. He finished the game with three tackles and a pass defended, but his impact is not measurable.
Hamilton did give up a touchdown catch on a pass that was a back-shoulder throw. His value won’t be changed by that one play though. He is still the best safety in the class and the best player on Notre Dame. No matter how the rest of the season goes for the Fighting Irish, Hamilton will likely be a top 10 pick.
4. Myjai Sanders, EDGE, Cincinnati Bearcats
Cincinnati went on the road and got a huge win over Notre Dame with a good defensive effort. Edge rusher Myjai Sanders was all over the field for the Bearcats, making plays and pressuring the quarterback. He totaled three tackles, one tackle for loss, a pass defended and two quarterback hurries. The pressure he helped generate won Cincinnati the game.
Sanders is a potential first-round pick and this performance only helped his stock. Notre Dame has had offensive line issues, but the important thing is that Sanders played well on the big stage. He will have plenty of time the rest of the season to pad the stats and improve his draft stock even further.
5. Jordan Davis, DL, Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia had a dominating performance against a top 10 team in Arkansas. The defense stepped again and registered a shutout, proving they are an elite defense. Jordan Davis had a solid game, but as an interior defensive lineman it didn’t show up in the stat sheet. He registered just two tackles, but was a major factor in the game.
Davis is huge and moves well for his size, which is his appeal for NFL teams. He even lined up on offense in this game! Teams that could use a nose tackle will love Davis. He could find his way into being a round one or two pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
