The season has been a rough one for many of the bottom-tier teams for sure. Teams like the Seattle Surge or London Royal Ravens are having a terrible year due to losing in either crazy fashions or getting dominated completely. This is not the case for one team as Optic Chicago’s season is heating up.
The bottom teams have suffered a lot, however, there were never any true expectations for those teams to do well. However, for Optic Chicago, that is not the case. This season has proved to be the toughest season the team has ever been in.
Stages 1 & 2
For stage one, Optic won four out of the five games they played in group play, setting themselves up to be in the winner’s bracket for the stage 1 major. Once they got into the winner’s bracket, it placed them up against the New York Subliners, in which they won.
After winning against New York, it led Optic to play their bitter rivals, Dallas Empire. In the match, they ended up losing by getting swept by the Empire which moved them to play New York, yet again, in which they lost, which led to them being eliminated from the major, placing fourth.
Stage two was nearly the same as they won three out of the five games in group play. However, they ended up losing to Minnesota Rokkr in a heartbreaking fashion as the team lost around 11 to the Rokkr due to a one in million play made by Lamar “Accuracy” Abedi.
Stage 3 & 4
In both stages three and four, it was all the same in both aspects. However, in stage three, it got worse, as the team only played won two of their five group play games and placed the same in stage three major.
In the stage, the team, yet again, won three of their five group play games and placed fourth(third time this season) in stage four major. All the games they lost to were teams that were ahead of them in the standings, besides Paris.
Meaning the team won nearly all the games they were supposed to and lost all the games they were not supposed to win. However, the team was supposed to be a top-tier team, only now, they are a mid-tier team. Facing great criticism, as they are the most popular team in the league, they needed a change.
Optic Now and the Future
After a poor and relatively underwhelming showing by the team in the past four stages of the season. The team decided to call upon a private meeting with all the players and coaches of the team to hash out all of their frustrations and concerns.
After the meeting, the team showed great improvement as they won their first two matches for group play for stage five. However, the group play for stage five did not get any easier for the team as they were set to play FaZe later that next week.
Against FaZe, Optic showed their true form as they ended up beating FaZe in spectacular fashion as they beat Atlanta 3-2, shocking the Call of Duty League and Call of Duty community as a whole.
