Van Gundy was hired before the 2020-2021 season and posted a 31-41 record. The Pelicans were unable to make the playoffs, despite the hype surrounding Zion Williamson.
Now, the Pelicans will look to get a head coach who can get the most out of Williamson, while the front office surrounds him with talent. According to Wojnarowksi, the Pelicans will consider some candidates that they considered last year in Jacque Vaughn, Ime Udoka, Charles Lee and Jason Kidd.
The Pelicans will be a desirable job with Williamson’s continued improvement.
