Top 20 College Basketball Point Guards for the 2021-2022 Season: 20-11

Scruggs will be one of the best guards entering next season with his ability to contribute in many ways. He’ll be looking to get Xavier back to the NCAA Tournament. Next, he is a very consistent scorer starting with the ability to make perimeter jumpers at 32.5% from three. Furthermore, he has the ability to score off the dribble getting to the basket or the mid-range well. Continued, he is effective off the basketball being an active cutter towards the basket. Also, he is a good rebounder for a guard contributing towards extra possessions and gets others involved. Additionally, he brings good toughness offensively with being able to get into the lane with great consistency. Now defensively, he is very good on the perimeter with his size and overall activity. Also, his athleticism helps contain drives and his positioning are excellent on the defensive end. Scruggs will be one of the best guards in the country.

Sasser had a really productive sophomore season for Houston and will be their go-to guy on the perimeter next season. First off, he really shoots well off the catch for Houston especially off of their success on offensive rebounds at 33.5% from three. Next, he moves well off the basketball consistently moving to be in the best position to score the basketball. Additionally, his improvement is going to be his ability to make plays off the dribble and be more of a threat getting to the basket. Also, the evolvement in his game as a ball-handler and distributor will be vital in his growth as a playmaker. As well is, continuing to grow his game in being able to use ball screens to get shots from all over and especially the rim with flashes in that area. Now defensively, he does a solid job on the ball with his activity and positioning. He needs to become an improved defender off the basketball especially the help side. Marcus Sasser will be one of the best players in the AAC in position to be player of the year.

Lofton had a very good Junior season leading St. Bonaventure to an A-10 regular season and tournament title towards the NCAA tournament. Further, Lofton is the tone-setter for this St. Bonaventure on both ends starting with his ability to score and distribute at a high level. Next, he brings the shiftiness with the basketball for dribble penetration to the basket with the ability to finish well. Continued, area Lofton needs to improve his ability to make perimeter jumpers consistently as he shot 24.0% from three. Additionally, he has the ability to attack off the dribble well getting the basket in transition and getting midrange pull-up jumpers. Also, he is very good at ball screen opportunities as a scoring threat and being able to distribute to others very well. Now defensively, he gets after on the defensive end with his consistent on-ball pressure. Lofton is really active off the basketball as well and disrupts the opposing guard’s ability to score and shoot the basketball effectively. Kyle Lofton is a lead guard who will be leading St. Bonaventure in their attempt to return to the NCAA tournament.

Clark is the table-setter for Virginia on both ends of the floor and will look to have a huge senior season. First off, the pace is set by Clark on both ends of the floor with the way he initiates and defends. Next, he has steadily improved his shooting ability with his three-point being effective off the dribble and catch at 32.3%. Further, he does a very good job of getting into the lane with his attacking ability and finishing at the rim. As well as, being able to be a great distributor allows him to make decisions with dribble penetration. Continued, he uses ball screens really well within his decision making and around the basket his scoop shot is very effective in avoiding shot blockers. Also, his footwork and movement of the basketball are really good allowing him to catch and attack quickly. As for defensively, he brings great on-ball pressure with consistently being in a stance and the effort is always there. Continued, he is always in great positioning of the basketball to react within the Packline defense. Kihei Clark will have a great Senior season for Virginia is one of the best point guards in the country.

Love showed signs of promise in his freshman season and now will be looking to elevate his game towards his sophomore season. Furthermore, Love has a really good size that allows him to be effective going downhill and finishing is something he can become very good at. Also, his ability to use ball screens is pretty good and could elevate his game even with getting easy shots off-ball screens. Therefore, the shot selection of Love needs to improve to be able to shoot a higher percentage from the field as he was only at 31.6%. Additionally, his perimeter jumper needs to take a jump forward to open up everything else in his offensive game. Next, he could improve his passer to more than a one-read passer and seeing the whole floor with ease. Continued, Love can move in transition with the ability to get to the basket will be a staple moving forward with North Carolina. As for defensively, Love’s size and activity will lead to him growing into an even better defender. The consistency of effort and ability to contain the basketball will be key. Caleb Love should take a big jump in his sophomore season being one of the best guards in the ACC.

Sherfield had a tremendous sophomore season for Nevada, leading them to score and having this team set up to be a potential NCAA tournament team next season. First off, Sherfield brings the ability to be really dynamic off the basketball being able to get in the lane and makes shots off the bounce. Additionally, he shot really well from the perimeter 36.7% from three, whether in transition or the half-court. Also, he is very shifty with the basketball, and can be very difficult for defenders to keep him in front of them. Continued, his constant dribble penetration causes problems for defenses with his finishing ability and playmaking capabilities. He’s really good in ball screen action allowing him to create mismatches and doing his best work in the lane. As for defensively, he’s solid on the basketball with his effort and positioning. As well as, being a consistent reliable defender who can guard opposing teams’ best guards. Grant Sherfield could win Mountain West player of the year and lead Nevada towards winning the league.

Etienne had a terrific season for Wichita State being an offensive catalyst towards them winning the AAC regular-season title. Furthermore, he brings a physicality allowing him to get downhill effectively, and uses ball screens really well. Next, Etienne could improve his shot section to become an even more efficient scorer. Additionally, he has the ability to make shots from the perimeter at 39.2% from three. Also, he is very good in transition with his pace pushing the basketball capable of pulling up and getting to the rim. Continued, he is capable of attacking in 1v1 situations effectively and plays well off the basketball. The toughness Etienne plays with sets the tone for Witchita State and is a major part of their identity. Now defensively, he brings really good ball pressure with his effort and physicality. Also, his overall activity is very good whether that be on or off the basketball. Tyson Etienne should have a massive junior season capable of being the AAC player of the year.

Molinar had a very good sophomore season for Mississippi State being a go-to scorer with great efficiency. First off, he is very efficient from the perimeter as a shooter off the catch or dribble at 43.6% from three. Next, he uses ball screens very well being able to get to the rim quickly and finishes strong. Additionally, he has shiftiness with the basketball, making it difficult for defenders to stay in front of him. Continued, his ability to be dynamic with the basketball makes him one of the best guards in the SEC. The area he can improve would be his playmaking ability for others as a distributor. Molinar’s pace in transition adds another element to his game being able to generate offense. As for the defensive end, he’s excellent on the defensive end with his ability to contain the basketball. The lateral moment Molinar has is great and he is really good at forcing difficult drives for offensive players. Iverson Molinar will be one of the best guards in the SEC next season leading what will be an NCAA tournament team at Mississippi State.

Likekele is such a valuable part of the success of Oklahoma State with his positional versatility and leadership. Further, he has the ability to play out on the perimeter and inside posting up guards with his physicality. Next, he is a consistent factor on the boards on both ends with his activity. Continued, he brings the ability to drive the basketball very well with the ability to finish at the rim. Continued, he attacks really well in transition with the ability to score or distribute the basketball. Also, he has improved his ability to make the catch and shoot threes with a percentage of 44.4% from behind the line. Additionally, his ability to face-up from the mid-post is a matchup defender trying to stay in front of Likekele. The ability to handle the basketball and play the four for Oklahoma State makes him extremely valuable for their offensive success. Now defensively, he is great on this end with the ability to guard multiple positions and his physicality. Also, his overall activity on the basketball is great matched with his size can force turnovers towards opposing guards. Issac Likekele will be the lead guy for Oklahoma State looking to return to the NCAA tournament.

Chandler will look to be a massive part of Tennessee leading them at the point and making them a more efficient offense. Furthermore, he will bring immediate leadership from the position and will play with great pace in transition along with the half-court. Next, he will be a good distributor with having really good passing ability with his overall playmaking and court vision. Additionally, the ability to make Tennessee a more well-rounded offense will be beneficial for those players off the basketball. The area he will need to continue to evolve in will be his ability to score basketball at a higher level. Kennedy Chandler will enter the season as the best freshman point guard in the country.
