The Dallas Cowboys have re-signed restricted free agent Antwaun Woods. Woods, 28, will enter his fourth season with the Cowboys after spending two seasons with the Tennessee Titans to begin his career. After going undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft and playing in only one game for the Titans, Woods has settled in nicely with Dallas.
The former USC star has been a solid addition for the Cowboys since they signed him in the 2018 offseason. Over his three seasons with the Cowboys, he has totaled 80 tackles, 2.5 sacks and eight quarterback hits. Last season, Woods started seven games in which he had 23 tackles and 1.0 sacks.
Although Woods isn’t the most appealing name for Dallas, he can be considered a great signing for his price. He signed a $2.183 million tender for the 2021 season to stay with the Cowboys.
His best season came in 2018 where he started 15 games for the Cowboys. He finished the season with 1.5 sacks, 34 tackles and five quarterback hits. Woods can provide a spark for the younger players on the team like Neville Gallimore, Trysten Hill. With Woods entering his sixth NFL season, his experience could very well help both Hill and Gallimore.
Hill (23) and Gallimore (24) are both currently the starting defensive tackles for the Dallas Cowboys in 2021. Keeping a player like Woods can help definitely them and the players around him. With the Cowboys needing more defensive tackles to fill out their roster, this move seemed like a reasonable one for both sides. Woods has shown glimpses of potential in the past, so hopefully, he can be a key contributor for the Cowboys in 2021.
