The 2021 NFL Draft begins on April 29, which means that The Game Haus will be writing draft profiles for every team. Each NFL team will be evaluated heading into this year’s draft, as our staff recaps their last season, highlights their needs and pinpoints their potential 2021 NFL Draft targets. The Seattle Seahawks are the subject of today’s 2021 NFL Draft profile.
Summary
The Seahawks finished first in what most people consider to be the toughest division in football, the NFC West. Their season ended after their first playoff game, however, as their division rivals, the Rams, handed them a defeat in the Wild Card Round.
Most casual NFL fans know that the Seahawks’ home field advantage is among the league’s very best, yet it was unavailable due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hopefully, the stands can be full again when the 2021 season begins.
Despite their 12-4 record, the Seahawks had a lot of holes last season and their injury woes continued, especially at running back. They continued to be aggressive in the trade market and free agency, though and have tried to keep pace with the ever-strengthening NFC West. Here is how they can use their first pick to continue to stay competitive.
2021 NFL Picks
Seattle will have one pick to use in the first three rounds of the 2021 NFL Draft.
First Round (zero picks)
Second Round (one pick): No. 56
Third Round (zero picks)
Team Needs
Cornerback- The Seahawks downgraded at cornerback, as Shaquil Griffin left town and was replaced by Akhello Witherspoon. With the dangerous NFC West offenses getting even tougher in 2021, Seattle may need to have more options at corner.
Offensive line- Not a lot to say, here. Even though the Seahawks traded a pick in return for veteran Gabe Jackson, Seattle’s line has been historically bad for years. Jackson is not enough and this is a very deep draft at offensive line. A second round pick at the position this year could have been a first round selection in years past.
Defensive line- As stated above, the NFC West is only getting tougher. Another pass-rushing interior offensive lineman to chase down Stafford, Murray and whomever the new 49ers quarterback ends up being, would be welcome.
2021 Draft Targets
Second Round:
Pick No. 56: Liam Eichenberg, OT, Notre Dame
Liam Eichenberg has been the starting left tackle for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in every game since 2018. No small feat, considering Notre Dame is historically filled with offensive line talent and continues to be a factory for linemen when it comes to the NFL draft. He is almost a sure-fire hit and could start immediately for a sub-par Seattle offensive line.
Either way, offensive tackle needs to be the pick here. This draft is absolutely filled with tackle talent and it runs deep into the second round. If they do not like Eichenberg, his teammate Aaron Banks, North Dakota State’s Dillon Radunz and Alabama’s Alex Leatherwood should all be available here.
