Quinn Meinerz Background

Position: Offensive Guard/Center

Size: 6-foot-3, 320 pounds

Class: Redshirt Junior

2019 stats: First Team All-American

There aren’t many Division III prospects that get drafted, but Meinerz is going to buck that trend. He spent four seasons at Wisconsin-Whitewater and is now jumping to the NFL level.

Meinerz didn’t have Division I scholarship offers out of high school, so he decided to go to Division III powerhouse Wisconsin-Whitewater. He redshirted his first year on campus then played in two games as a redshirt freshman. His development continued and he took a starting spot for the Warhawks as a redshirt sophomore. He helped Wisconsin-Whitewater win a conference championship with his play that season. Meinerz was an All-American in 2019 and the Warhawks won another conference championship.

Due to Covid, Wisconsin-Whitewater did not play in 2020, so Meinerz declared for the 2021 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a second round to fourth round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Strengths

Meinerz has solid size for an NFL guard. He is 6-foot-3 and 320 pounds, which is good enough in both the height and weight categories. His arm length comes in at 33.375 inches and he has 10.125-inch hands, which are both solid for the position as well. Even though he is coming from Division III, measurables won’t be an issue.

His play strength is good for a guard. He can move bodies in the running game and clear big holes. As a pass blocker, he has a solid anchor and isn’t easily moved by defenders. His strength allows him to have success, but he also has a good demanor to go with it, as he is always looking to finish plays off well.

At this point, his run blocking is more impressive than his pass blocking. Although he was playing against Division III competition, Meinerz was able to use his momentum to clear gigantic holes for his running backs. He is also able to pull and get to the second level at a decent rate.

Weaknesses

The biggest weakness for Meinerz is that he didn’t play against the greatest competition. He dominated at the Division III level, but it is a big jump to the NFL. Meinerz did perform well at the Senior Bowl, so that should help ease concerns. There will still be a huge adjustment period for Meinerz at the NFL level.

His technique could also use some work. Meinerz has strong hands, but he needs to work on the timing and placement of them to improve. His footwork can also be a bit choppy and he could be a little bit more fluid with his movements.

Meinerz does tend to lose balance and leans too much. He needs to be more patient and let defenders come to him. When he gets off-balance, defenders that he usually dominates can beat him. If he gets caught lunging or leaning at the next level, better athletes will take advantage.
