Sanders, 33, had 61 receptions for 726 yards and five touchdowns with the Saints last season. While the Saints will have $6 million in dead cap space from the move, they will save more than $3 million overall according to Over the Cap.
New Orleans made the move on the heels of the NFL announcing a $182.5 million salary cap, which is down from $198.2 million in 2020. The Saints are still over $44 million over the cap heading into 2021.
The Saints will have to figure out the salary cap, but will also have to find a new number two receiver behind Michael Thomas in an offense that may or may not feature Drew Brees at quarterback as he mulls retirement.
Sanders has played for the Steelers, Broncos, 49ers and Saints in his career. He has caught 662 passes for 8,619 yards and 47 touchdowns in his career. The two-time Pro Bowler and one-time Super Bowl champion with Denver will be a free agent.
