The Houston Rockets have agreed in principle to trade Robert Covington to the Portland Trail Blazers for Trevor Ariza, the 16th pick in the 2020 NBA draft and a 2021 first round pick, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Last season Covington scored 11.6 points on 39.2% from the field and 31.5% from three in his time with the Rockets. In the playoffs Covington’s efficiency improved drastically, averaging 11.2 points per game and shooting 49.5% from the field and 50% from three on just under six attempts per game.
Covington will bring shooting and a defense to the Blazers who struggled defensively last season with the 27th ranked defensive rating in the league, according to basketball-reference.com.
Ariza, who is on an expiring contract, averaged 11 points and 4.8 rebounds in his 21 games with Portland last season and will head back to Houston for the third time in his career.
