One of the biggest strategies in fantasy football is streaming defenses. Each week owners will look at matchups and make waiver wire acquisitions to find their starting defense. Here are fantasy football defenses to stream in week 8. (Note: All defense mentioned are owned in less than 50 percent of ESPN leagues)
1. Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers have been a below-average fantasy defense this season. A lot of that is based on matchups though. They have 0 point performances against the Chiefs, Saints and Buccaneers, which is understandable given the quarterbacks they were facing. In their three other games on the season, they are averaging eight points per game.
This week the Chargers are playing with the Broncos, who rank 31st against opposing defenses. They do have Drew Lock back now, but the Broncos still have a lot of injuries that have prevented them from putting a lot of points on the board. The Chargers are available in 53.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
2. New Orleans Saints
New Olreans has had a solid season in terms of fantasy defense. They rank 17th in the league. That rankings is bolstered by their 17-point performance against the Buccaneers in the season-opener. They have a negative scoring performance against the Packers, but have otherwise scored points in each game this season.
The Saints have a favorable matchup this week, as they play the Bears. Chicago ranks 25th against opposing defenses. Nick Foles doesn’t have the time to really pick apart a defense with their offensive line, so it limits what they can do offensively. The Saints should be able to take advantage and do decently on the defensive side of the ball. New Orleans is owned in 42.5 percent of ESPN leagues.
3. Tennessee Titans
The Titans have had an up and down fantasy season so far. They had a 0-point performance against Jacksonville and a negative performance against Houston. Otherwise, they have played ok this season, with a seven-point performance against the Bills and a five-point performance against the Steelers this week.
Tennessee travels to Cincinnati this week to take on the Bengals, who rank 26th against opposing defenses. While Joe Burrow can put up passing yards, the Bengals struggle to put up points and give up a lot of sacks. The Titans will be able to create pressure and force turnovers this week. They are owned in 16.2 percent of ESPN leagues.
4. Green Bay Packers
Green Bay has had a solid season so far in fantasy and in reality. They have one negative scoring performance against the Buccaneers. Other than that, the Packers have played decently and had a really solid game against the Lions, in which they scored 12 points.
The Packers play the Vikings this week, who they scored four points against earlier in the season. This time they get them at home and the Vikings haven’t gotten any better since that first matchup. They rank 22nd against opposing defenses this season. The Packers are available in 89 percent of ESPN leagues.
5. Seattle Seahawks
Defense has been a sore spot for the Seahawks this year. They rank 26th in fantasy points and have had two negative-scoring games. Seattle does have ok games played against Dallas and Minnesota, but that is hardly something to be proud of.
Fortunately, the Seahawks get a favorable matchup this week. They play the 49ers, who are really banged up right now, especially at the skill positions. It is a good opportunity for the Seahawks to get back on track, as the 49ers rank 20th against opposing defenses this season.
