As the Worlds group stage has come to a close, three out of the four LPL teams made it out of the group stage. Suning, JD Gaming, and TOP Esports all made it out. Sadly for them, LGD fell just short, ending at 3:3. Today’s article will take a quick look at the road so far.
Suning finished group A on top
Coming into Worlds as the number three seed from the LPL, they ended up with G2, Team Liquid, and Machi. Despite losing their first match, against G2, Suning put up a good fight, and the game went the distance. After that, they started to pick up steam, finishing the first round tied with G2, who fell to team Liquid.
Suning could have finished in first without having to play a tiebreaker, but they also fell to Team Liquid. In the end, they had to play G2 two matches back-to-back, and they won both, finishing the group in first.

JDG come out in second in group B
The LPL’s runner up started their Worlds journey alongside Damwon, PSG Talon, and Rogue. JD Gaming got absolutely smashed by the LCK’s first seed in their first match, only to smash PSG Talon shortly after. They finished off Rogue and ended the first round in second.
After once again taking down Rogue, JDG fell in their match against PSG Talon. This automatically locked them in second, as Talon and Rogue had been eliminated and Damwon couldn’t be reached. However, in their final match, JDG managed to show up again, taking down Damwon stopping them from achieving a perfect group stage.

LGD fall just short of quarters
Placed in a group with Gen.G, Fnatic, and TSM, LGD had a lot to prove. After an underwhelming play-ins, many fans had discarded LGD. However, they came in fighting, with a close loss to Gen.G. They then managed to take down Fnatic and TSM, ending round one in a three-way tie for first.
However, week two wasn’t as kind to LGD. After another close loss to Gen.G, LGD fell to Fnatic, eliminating them from Worlds. It’s been an incredible year for LGD, going all the way to Worlds after finishing spring in fifteenth. Fans can only hope that they maintain their upward swing going into 2021.

Top confirm favoritism in group D
Coming into Worlds at the number one seed from the LPL, many viewed Top as one the pre-tournament favorites. In their first week of play, they had no difficulty in dispatching DRX, Flyquest, and the Unicorns of Love.
While their second match against Uol went as well as the first, Top encountered some difficulty against Flyquest. The NA team managed to upset Top, allowing DRX to tie with them for first. In the final match for all the marbles, Top once again emerged triumphant over DRX, confirming their first place in the group.

And that concludes the main stage of Worlds 2020. Playoffs will start on the fifteenth of October, with Damwon vs DRX. Suning and JDG will take the stage on Friday, while TOP will return on Saturday.
