With the return of the LPL, there will be a weekly look at a each team competing. This week’s team is OMG, a team plagued by their past two years.
Top: Curse
Young Curse joined OMG last year, playing all throughout Summer Split. Neither Curse nor OMG were able to perform well last year, with the team finishing with a 2/14 record and in last place overall. This year, however, things seem to be going better for OMG and Curse. Currently sitting at 2-2, they looked competitive in their loss versus RNG. Curse, in particular, seemed ready to take advantage of LangX, and helped to take the team to a game 3. Curse doesn’t seem to be fond of the tank heroes. In fact, he will pick anything to avoid them, including a Corki last summer. Hopefully, for Curse, he will grow into a top tier top laner alongside the veteran talent around him.
Jungle: H4cker
H4cker joined OMG during the last off-season. After rotating seven junglers in the last two years, OMG decided to try a more veteran player. H4cker spent his last two years on Suning and has been labeled as a consistent, gatekeeping jungler. If you were able to outjungle him, you were a playoff-worthy top tier jungler. Lose to him and your team probably wouldn’t make playoffs. This year, however, after joining a new roster, it seems like H4cker’s passion was reignited. H4cker has been bringing the pressure, even picking up an MVP of the match versus Rogue Warriors. If H4cker continues to perform, the sky is the limit for OMG.
Middle: Icon
Icon will once again be returning as OMG’s mid laner. Over the past few years, Icon has become the face of OMG. Both Icon and OMG have seen high highs and low lows. When he burst into the scene in 2017, he was known as the hitman, consistently getting solo kills on enemy mid laners. In 2018, however, he started to slowly lose control of the mid lane and soon would drop in the mid lane power rankings. 2019, his downward spiral continued, as his beloved assassins found themselves out of meta. Now, on a revitalized roster, it seems that Icon has once again found his footing. Picking up MVP in two games already, it seems like the Hitman is back
Carry: Smlz
The prodigal son has once again returned home. While Smlz has been around for a while and played on multiple teams, OMG will always view him as their son. After Uzi failed to bring OMG to worlds in 2015, OMG turned to his greatest competition at the time, Smlz. He would go on to put up spectacular performances, taking the team to rift rivals and putting on a masterclass. However, for unknown reasons, he got dropped in 2018, in favour of Chelly. Joining Rogue Warriors, Smlz once again failed to make Worlds. After a year of being painfully mediocre on Suning, Smlz returned home. Known for his ice-cold emotions, Smlz seems to never feel the heat, in or out of game. His level head seems to be what was missing on OMG, as both have already got their act together, with Smlz also picking up MVP in two occasions.
Support: Cold
The longest-lasting member of OMG, Cold, previously known as Five, returns to the starting squad. After two years of consistently competing with other support players for the starting position, Cold is once again, solo support. Paired up with his partner from many moons ago, Smlz, they will look to bring back the bot lane that dominated in 2017. Known as the best ardent censor support during its glory days, Cold has been struggling in a tank-heavy meta. After two years, it finally seems like OMG is confident enough in Cold’s skills on said tanks to have him solo support once again.
Team Review:
OMG has a history of ups and downs. From worlds to near relegation, from Rift Rivals to bottom of the LPL, OMG has done it all. The team has revamped, but actually only have the one new player in H4cker. The talent is there for this roster, but they are relying on stars from their past to bring them into the future. It seems to be working a treat, however, with 2020 looking to be a much more positive one than the last two years.
