The Los Angeles Wildcats have fired defensive coordinator Pepper Johnson after just one game. The XFL kicked off on Saturday, February 8. The Wildcats were the second game of the inaugural season. Los Angeles lost the game to the Houston Roughnecks 37-17.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter announced the firing via Twitter on Tuesday morning.

The Wildcats were up at halftime 14-6, before letting Houston score 31 points in the second half. Johnson’s defense gave up four passing touchdowns in the blowout loss.
Pepper Johnson is a five-time Super Bowl champion. He earned two as a player with the New York Giants, then three more as an inside linebacker/defensive line coach with the New England Patriots.
He tweeted on Monday that he was a “Free Agent!” Johnson is able to be signed by any team that would like his services.
No defensive coordinator replacement has been named for the Wildcats.
