The Los Angeles Chargers have officially moved on from their eight-time Pro Bowl quarterback, Philip Rivers. The 38-year-old is a free agent ahead of the 2020 season.
Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller announced via Twitter that the Chargers are done with Rivers. Fox’s Jay Glazer originally reported the story.

Rivers and the Chargers had a disappointing 2019 season after making the Divisional Round last year. They went 5-11, as Rivers threw 23 touchdowns to 20 interceptions. In 2018, as the team went 12-4, he threw 32 touchdowns to only 12 interceptions.
He led the NFL in passing touchdowns in 2008 (34) and led the league in yards in 2010 (4,710). Rivers never reached a Super Bowl, but played in 11 postseason games with San Diego/Los Angeles.
Reports indicate that the Chargers are the most likely landing spot for Tom Brady, if he does not stay with New England. Moving on from a 38-year-old quarterback to go with a 42-year-old may seem counterintuitive, but the team is moving into a new stadium and needs to sell tickets.
Phillip Rivers moved his family to Florida after the regular season concluded. This was the first hint he was not expecting to be re-signed by Los Angeles. His market in free agency is unclear as of now.
