Cassius Winston
Cassius Winston showed what he is capable of against Michigan going for 32 in the difficult matchup against Zavier Simpson. He’s the engine of Michigan State and when he plays like this they are a National Championship contender. The ability for him to control the offense in such a smooth manner is impressive. Also, the feel for when he must assert himself as a scorer is tremendous. Winston is the heartbeat for Michigan State and he’s back to being the Cassius Winston everyone is accustomed too.
San Diego State
They are proving to be one of the best teams in the country with a statement win at Utah State. The Aztecs are legitimately capable of running the table or close to it in the Mountain West conference and getting a 1 or 2 seed in the NCAA tournament. First off, Brian Dutcher has a very good scheme offensively with great spacing. The play of Malachi Flynn leads the way being a very efficient scorer from all levels. In addition, Yanni Wetzel is a very good stretch four who’s versatility helps make the offense go. Continued, K.J. Feagin does a very solid job at the point of setting up the offense. The x-factor is Matt Mitchell who is a tough bruiser and a capable scorer. Also, Jordan Schakel is a big shot maker for San Diego State. San Diego State has proved itself to be very capable of making a major run this March.
Duke
Duke is starting to find their rhythm as a team and they must play through Vernon Carey Jr. the rest of the way. His ability to dominate the paint gives space for others to operate more effectively. This is starting to show with Cassius Stanley who can get to the basket and make open shots when necessary. In addition, the versatility of Wendell Moore has been vital as he can help out in every area of the game and will now need to get healthy after breaking his hand and being out indefinitely. Also, Tre Jones is getting healthy and will be the catalyst who is leading the way for Duke setting the tone defensively. Matthew Hurt is the x-factor for this team and needs to score at a high level to complement Carey Jr. Lastly, if Alex O’Connell or Joey Baker become knockdown shooters Duke will be a number 1 seed come NCAA tournament time.
Arkansas
Eric Mussleman has his Arkansas team playing at a very high level. The backcourt play for Arkansas is tremendous with Isaiah Joe and Jimmy Whitt Jr. having such good chemistry. In addition, Desi Sill’s ability is showing his capabilities to play off the ball very well. Furthermore, Mason Jones is the primary scorer for this team who is playing extremely well for Arkansas leading the way. The ability for Eric Mussleman to get the success immediately is a credit to his track record and coaching ability.
Florida State
Depth is said to be overrated in games, however, balance is not and that’s what Florida State has. The ability for Florida State to go on the road to Louisville and dominate is very impressive. Further, the guard play of Trent Forrest and Davin Vassell was very good for Florida State being very efficient. Along with, M.J. Walker coming off of the bench providing a major bunch offensively. If Patrick Williams and Raiquan Gray can take the next step this team will be very dangerous for the rest of the ACC and country. Leonard Hamilton is an extremely good coach who gets the most out of his guys and he’s doing it again this year.
