Each week, The Game Haus will highlight five players to watch from college football games featuring Associated Press Top 25 teams. From established stars to players on the verge of breaking out, we’ll offer some names to remember every week of the college football season.
Here’s a look at five players to watch in Week 12 (All times Eastern):
Stevie Scott III, RB, No. 24 Indiana
Matchup: at No. 9 Penn State, Noon, Saturday
Breakdown: With quarterback Michael Penix Jr. done for the season, the offensive onus could be on Scott to keep things rolling for the Hoosiers. One of our players to watch in Week 12, Scott has averaged 114.0 yards during Indiana’s current four-game Big Ten winning streak. Penn State has allowed only three teams to reach the 100-yard rushing mark this season.
Malcolm Perry, QB, No. 21 Navy
Matchup: at No. 16 Notre Dame, 2:30 p.m., Saturday
Breakdown: The senior Perry is the motor that makes Navy’s option run. He just topped the 1,000-yard rushing mark for a third straight season, and has averaged 153.4 during the Midshipmen’s five-game winning streak. One of our players to watch for Week 12, Perry ran for 133 yards on 12 carries in last season’s loss to the Irish.
Tanner Morgan, QB, No. 7 Minnesota
Matchup: at No. 23 Iowa, 4 p.m., Saturday
Breakdown: Morgan should no longer be an under-the-radar name to college football fans. Not after he went 18 of 20 for 339 yards and three touchdowns in last weekend’s statement-win over Penn State. Morgan ranks fourth in the country with a 191.0 passer rating, and has thrown eight touchdowns with one interception over the four games. Iowa, meanwhile, has allowed nine passing TDs all season.
Marlon Davidson, DE, No. 13 Auburn
Matchup: vs. No. 5 Georgia, 3:30 p.m., Saturday
Breakdown: A back issue kept the talented Tiger out of action against Ole Miss in Auburn’s most recent game on Nov. 2. Davidson (six sacks, two forced fumbles) is back practicing and it appears he will be ready to go for this top-15 tilt with Georgia. If Davidson finds his way back on the field, he will need to be his best for the Tigers to pull off the upset.
James Lynch, DT, No. 12 Baylor
Matchup: vs. No. 10 Oklahoma, 7:30 p.m., Saturday
Breakdown: If Baylor is to knock off the high-powered Sooners and remain undefeated, it likely must make a statement on defense. That begins with Lynch, who ranks among the national leaders with 8 1/2 sacks – including 5 1/2 and six tackles for loss over the last five games. This is the kind of game stars are born, or least players to watch in Week 12.
