Spectators have had their doubts thus far, however Team Liquid have made sure to prove them wrong. TL are back in winning form after their recent 2-0 weekend during Week 6 of the LCS. Wins over Counter Logic Gaming and FlyQuest have kept them at the top of the league, however they now hold sole possession of first place. By the will of their incredibly talented roster, Team Liquid will be looking to surge in Week 7.
Prologue
Despite a few setbacks in previous matches, TL managed to sweep their opponents in Week 6. This is the third time they’ve done so this summer, but likely their most important. Team Liquid and CLG happened to be tied for first place entering their match. However, TL seemed to have the upper hand and swiftly defeated their opponents. Like most of their matches this split, it wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win nonetheless.
Day two fared much easier for Team Liquid, considering the recent struggles of FlyQuest. Instead of seizing the opportunity and attacking a wounded TL squad, FlyQuest simply rolled over. This was a result of proper team play on the side of Team Liquid, as well as poor execution from FLY.
Week 7 Match-Ups
There often comes a lot of pressure with being in first place, but it seems clear that TL are now used to the spotlight. Being the back-to-back-to-back LCS champions will certainly have that effect.
The weekend ahead shouldn’t be too much for Team Liquid, as they take on Clutch Gaming this Saturday. TL haven’t lost to CG since last summer, and they’ve definitely improved since. This will make it all the more difficult for CG, but they shouldn’t be counted out. At 5-7, Clutch have a reasonable shot at making the Summer Playoffs. With Team Liquid’s shaky reputation as of late, this could be the opportunity they were looking for. Taking down the first place team would easily give CG some bonus points, but TL won’t make it easy.
On Day two, Team Liquid will face a struggling Golden Guardians team. GGS currently sits at 6-6 after making the Spring Playoffs a few months back. Obviously, they can’t be too pleased with how things have been going after their 4-2 start to the summer. Since then, they’ve only managed to pick up one valuable win over CLG this past weekend. This lack of momentum should give Team Liquid the upper hand, on top of their already loaded roster. When playing at their best, TL are easily the best team in the LCS and they’ll have a nice shot at keeping their streak going against GGS.
Predictions
Of course, nothing is guaranteed in this league, however another 2-0 weekend is surely in sight for Team Liquid. Many of their mishaps and errors have begun to work themselves out and it’s shown in their record over the past few weeks. Even though Golden Guardians will likely put up a good fight, TL hold the advantage in almost every lane match-up. This comes from their overall talent, experience and performance thus far, giving them the obvious edge going in.
As for Clutch Gaming, a lot will need to go in their favor for them to pick up a win. Team Liquid have proven themselves to be a strong force – in almost every lane – and don’t have much to fear with CG. Clutch’s Bottom Lane duo has shown promise, however they become inferior when in the conversation of Peter ‘Doublelift‘ Peng and Yong-in ‘CoreJJ‘ Jo. As long as Doublelift and CoreJJ can play their respective games, Team Liquid should roll over CG and GGS in Week 7.
