Another week of amazing games, another week of amazing players in the OP 5. Once again the OP 5 will feature players that have yet to receive an OP honor so far this split. Which players received the honor this week? Let’s find out now in LCK Summer’s OP 5 for Week 3! As always if you missed last week’s OP 5 you can check it out here!

Top: Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon (DAMWON Gaming)

Starting things off this week is the top laner for DAMWON, Nuguri. Nuguri was nearly unstoppable in Week 3 as he and the rest of DAMWON took down SKT and Kingzone DragonX. As DAMWON continues to improve each week, so too does Nuguri as he made a strong case to being crowned the best top laner in the region thanks to his performance this week. Rocking a 6.57 KDA from their victories this week, Nuguri was nearly unstoppable as he dominated on champions like Camille and Irelia. 

With some huge matches coming up in the coming weeks along with Rift Rivals, Nuguri will need to keep up his recent string of great performances to bring DAMWON to the next level. At the end of the following weeks, Nuguri could build a convincing argument to being the best top laner in the world. 

Jungle: Lee “Tarzan” Seung-yong (Griffin)

Taking the OP jungler spot is a familiar face in Griffin’s Tarzan. In Griffins 2-0 week, Tarzan looked like the Tarzan of old as he took over the map and looked unstoppable. Thanks to two deathless games and a MVP performance on Olaf (3/0/4) against SKT in Game 2, Tarzan gave a great reminder as to why he was widely regarded as the best jungler in the world during the Spring Split.

With SKT struggling, Griffin must now take on the role as the leaders of Korea for Rift Rivals as the runner ups from the Spring Split. For them to have a strong showing at their first international event, Tarzan will need to maintain his recent level of play. 

Mid: Heo “ShowMaker” Su (DAMWON Gaming)

Taking the OP mid spot for the week is DAMWON’s ShowMaker who put on quite the show en route to an amazing 2-0 week for DAMWON. Through the week, ShowMaker destroyed his opponents and was a key playmaker for DAMWON. From their victories, he was able to pick up MVPs for his performance on Vladimir (6/2/6) against SKT and Akali (6/0/10) against Kingzone.

As ShowMaker slowly puts together a convincing case to taking the throne of best mid laner in Korea, the question becomes whether he’ll be able to keep it up. With some amazing mid laners in the region. ShowMaker will need to maintain this level of play if he wants a chance at taking home the title of best mid laner in Korea. 

ADC: Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk (Gen.G)

Making his first appearance in the Summer Split’s OP5 is Gen.G’s ADC Ruler. As Gen.G continues to impress and climb up the standings, it’s has been thanks in large part to the performance of Ruler. Through another week of action, Ruler continues to show why he’s considered one of the best ADCs in Korea. As long as Ruler can maintain his current level of play, Gen.G will always have a chance at winning. But how long can Ruler keep it up at this point? Will they be able to make a deep run to Worlds once again? Or will they finally fall short?

Support: Son “Lehends” Si-woo (Griffin) 

If there was one thing to learn about the OP support of the week is that it may be time to ban his Yuumi. Across his four games this week, Lehends was able to pilot the magical cat in three of them. With Yummi, Lehends had an amazing 85% kill participation and total score of 2/2/44 (KDA of 23). With another champion that needs to be banned away in his already big champion pool, Lehends has become an even bigger threat to deal with as time goes on.

As the split progresses, who else will Lehends play? Just how big will his champion pool become by the end of the season? No matter what the answer will be, Lehends will be a fun support to follow as he and the rest of Griffin fights for Worlds. 

Honorable Mentions:

As always, with all the great players, it’s hard to fit everyone in. Here are some honorable mentions for the third week of summer action.

Starting things off this week is Gen.G’s support Kim “Life” Jeong-min. While Ruler has been killing it, his partner in crime, Life, hasn’t been getting as much praise. However, Life has been great as well as he was awarded the MVP for his amazing performance with Rakan (0/0/13) against Afreeca Freecs in Game 1. With a long split still ahead, Life needs to maintain his current form to help Gen.G push up the standings. If he can do so, don’t be surprised if he starts getting noticed a lot more. 

Finally, one last honorable mention goes out to the ADC of Griffin, Park “Viper” Do-hyeon. Viper had a great week as he picked up two MVP honors for a pair of deathless games on Ezreal and Xayah respectively. On top of that, Viper was once again able to flex his champion pool with a solid performance on Pyke. As the split progresses, will Viper get a chance to pull out any more pocket picks in the bot lane? Only time will tell.
