Week 11 of the MLB season is in the books. Like almost any week of baseball, this one left behind some memorable moments. Here are some of the biggest headlines from week 11 of the 2019 MLB season:
Encarnacion Reaches Milestone
Edwin Encarnion waked the parrot for the 400 time on Sunday. The current Mariner hit home runs no. 399 and 400 against the Angels, becoming the 56th MLB player to reach the milestone. Encarnacion is having a great season, especially at 36-years-old. He has 20 homers to go with 46 RBIs.
Nationals go Back-to-Back-to-Back-to-Back
Howie Kendrick, Trea Turner, Adam Eaton and Anthony Rendon hit consecutive solo shots in a matter of seven pitches. It happened in the eighth inning against San Diego Padres pitcher Craig Stammen. The Nationals won the game 5-2, so the home run spree proved to be the deciding factor of the game. This is just the ninth time ever that a team has hit four consecutive home runs, and the Nationals have now done it twice (2017, 2019.)
Dodgers Commanding NL West
The Dodgers are 11 games ahead in the NL West through 11 weeks of play. They’ve been playing extremely well on both sides of the ball. Walker Buehler had two starts in week 11, throwing 15 innings while only allowing one run. He also recorded 20 strikeouts with just one walk. Hyun-Jin Ryu has been putting up Cy Young candidate numbers all season. Through 11 weeks, he has a 1.35 ERA accompanied by a 0.78 WHIP. The bats of Cody Bellinger, Justin Turner and more have also showed up this season for The Blue Crew.
Kimbrel and Keuchel Sign
Craig Kimbrel is now a Chicago Cub, and Dallas Keuchel is an Atlanta Brave. The signings happened early in week 11, and neither guy has seen big league action with their new club yet. Kimbrel is attending the Cubs’ Arizona training facility to throw bullpen sessions, and will soon be heading to Triple-A Iowa before he pitches again in the bigs. Keuchel was scheduled to pitch for Triple-A Gwinnett, but the game has been postponed due to inclement weather. Look for the veteran pitchers to contribute to their new clubs very soon.
Yankees’ Injury Bug Continues
Domingo German has been placed on the 10-day IL due to a strained hip flexor. German has been keeping his discomfort quiet and tried to push through, but his past three starts implicated obvious problems. This came at a bad time for an already injured Yankees squad since pitchers Luis Severino, Jordan Montgomery, Dellin Betances and Jonathan Loaisiga are already on the IL. Offensively, the Bronx Bombers have experienced injury as well. Aaron Judge, Miguel Andujar and Giancarlo Stanton are just a few of the names on this list. The Yankees have done a great job managing their current state, as they are tied for first in the AL East.
