Right handed pitcher Sonny Gray will remain a Twin for the 2023 season. The Minnesota Twins have picked up his club option, which means they control him for another year. Last season, the team went 78-84, missing the playoffs.
The Twins’ official Twitter account reported the news on Monday.
Gray’s club option was picked up on his 33rd birthday. He went 8-5 in 24 total starts for Minnesota in 2022, racking up an ERA of 3.08 in 119.2 innings pitched. He struck out 117 batters after being traded from the Reds last season.
The Twins are also declining club options on pitchers Chris Archer and Dylan Bundy. First baseman Miguel Sano’s club option is also being declined for 2023. This will make all three of those players essentially free agents, but could be re-signed by the Twins.
