The first title fight on the UFC 300 card has officially been announced. On Wednesday night, UFC President, Dana White recorded one of his famous videos, releasing the breaking news. Two-time women’s Strawweight champion, Zhang Weili will defend her Strawweight title against Yan Xiaonan. This massive title fight will be the first ever between two athletes representing the country of China. This is a historic matchup for the promotion, and for it to be taking place on a card such as UFC 300 makes it that much better. Dana White’s announcement is below:
Both Fighters Past Bouts:
Weili is a two-time UFC Strawweight champion, and she’s currently sitting at number two on the women’s pound-for-pound list. Her last title defense took place in August of 2023, against Amanda Lemos. Weili showed her dominance in the fight, out-striking Lemos 296-29. A record for the largest striking differential in women’s UFC history. Xiaonan on the other hand, has put together striking clinics within her last two bouts. A dominant win over contender Mackenzie Dern, and a knockout finish over former champion Jessica Andrade has led her to this historic title fight. After the addition of this title fight in the women’s strawweight division, UFC 300 is turning into one of the better fight cards of 2024 so far.
