The 2018 NFL Draft is over and teams are getting comfortable with their new draft picks. The next class of players is getting prepared now for another year of college football. Each position will be analyzed in the coming days. Here are the best 2019 NFL Draft prospects: Linebackers.
Josh Allen, Kentucky
Allen is one of the most versatile players in the whole draft class as he can play inside linebacker, outside linebacker or edge rushers. He has great size at 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds.
After last season Allen thought about going pro but decided to return to school for another season. The jack of all trades had 66 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 7.0 sacks and one interception for the Wildcats last season. He could do a variety of different things in the NFL, much like Tremaine Edmunds, and could be a riser before the draft.
He would’ve gone in the first or second round in the 2018 draft and is a frontrunner to be one of the first linebackers off the board in 2019.
Devin Bush, Michigan
Bush flies all over the field like his hair is on fire but is a little bit undersized, which limits his draft potential. He stands 5-foot-11 and 222 pounds.
Last season Bush got his first chance at first-team action and didn’t disappoint. He totaled 95 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, one interception and seven passes defended. He can blitz, stop the run and cover due to his great speed.
His size will limit how early he can be selected, as it will be hard to play linebacker in the NFL while being so slight. If he performs well though, he could be selected in the first two rounds of the 2019 NFL Draft.
T.J. Edwards, Wisconsin
Edwards will be one of the most successful linebackers in Wisconsin history after deciding to return for his final season of eligibility. He has started since his freshman season, which has given him the time to get a lot of experience. The senior is 6-foot-1 and 244 pounds.
In his career, Edwards has 254 total tackles, 26 tackles for loss, 5.0 sacks, 7.0 interceptions and 13 passes defended. He will have a chance to prove himself once again this season with games against Michigan, Penn State, Northwestern and Iowa.
With another good campaign, Edwards will be selected in the first few rounds of the 2019Â NFL Draft.
Anfernee Jennings, Alabama
Another year and another NFL linebacker produced by Alabama. Jennings hasn’t had the most experience yet but will get his chance this season. He is 6-foot-3 and 262 pounds.
Jennings will specialize in stopping the run for Alabama, as he has just two passes defended in his career. He has gotten some playing time thus far and has 60 total tackles, 8.0 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack. To increase his draft stock he will have to show that he can be a three-down linebacker.
His real value can’t be known until he starts for at least a season but if Jennings plays as expected he will be an early round draft pick.
Devin White, LSU
White was one of the most productive linebackers in the country last season and has set himself up well to be an early round draft pick. He is 6-foot-1 and 248 pounds.
The most eye-popping stat of all the players on this list is White’s 133 total tackles last season. He added 4.5 sacks, 3.0 passes defended and one interception. He is clearly a candidate to be a high draft pick because of his ability to track down ball-carriers.
If he can improve his coverage a little bit, the sky will be the limit for White in the 2019 NFL Draft.
