The PGA Tour prepares for the 2023 U.S. Open, which will be hosted at Los Angeles Country Club. The third of four annual majors will feature a 7423-yard par-70 track. This installment of the U.S. Open will boast a record-breaking $20 million purse.
Matt Fitzpatrick became a U.S. Open champion last year after he carded a 6-under 274. This was a colossal victory for the young golfer, who out-golfed some of the best in the world. Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris weren’t far behind. The duo tied for second after recording a 5-under 275.
This year many big names will be returning to the U.S. Open. Additionally, 10 of the tournament’s past champions will be returning, alongside all of the world’s top-10 ranked golfers.
This year’s golfers will be up against the likes of defending U.S. Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, John Rahm, Viktor Hovland and Jordan Spieth who will be teeing it up on Thursday.
Players to watch
Scottie Scheffler – As the world’s number 1 ranked golfer, Scheffler is more than capable of securing the second major championship of his already impressive career. Scheffler placed second at the U.S. Open last year, falling by just one stroke. Look for him to bring his good stuff this week.
John Rahm – As the world’s second-ranked golfer behind Scottie Scheffler, John Rahm is a solid competitor. This season, John Rahm has recorded four victories (one of them being in Augusta at the 2023 Masters). He has proven himself to be a completely revamped golfer who has been displaying enormous amounts of discipline all year long.
Jordan Spieth – Despite coming off the tail end of a wrist injury, Jordan Spieth seems healthy and ready to go this week. As the world’s tenth-ranked golfer, an impressive performance cannot be overlooked. Spieth has incredible hands and is able to make difficult shots look easy. These skills will be vital at a difficult Los Angeles Country Club.
Sam Bennett – Lastly, we have Sam Bennett. The U.S. Open will mark just the third professional start for the Texas A&M graduate. Bright lights have seemed to bring out Bennett’s best in the past. After finishing T16 at the Masters as an amateur earlier this year and securing his first top-20 finish as a pro last week, Bennett is ready to take on Los Angeles.
