As the regular season winds down, the PGA Tour prepares for the 2023 3M Open. Hosted at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, MN, the 3M Open can either make or break a player’s season. Twin Cities features a 7,431-yard par-71 track that this season’s field of players will attempt to conquer.
Last season, Tony Finau emerged as the victor after recording a 17-under 267. His 6-under 65 third round allowed him to edge out Emiliano Grillo and Sungjae Im who both finished tied for second place. Callum Tarren shot a tournament-low 8-under 63 during the second round. However, after three other mediocre rounds, the Englishman finished T7.
With 500 FedExCup points on the line, the 3M Open has attracted some big names into the field. Tony Finau will return in an attempt to defend his title. Justin Thomas, Sungjae Im, Hideki Matsuyama and Cameron Young will also be making an appearance.
The PGA Tour shared one of Finau’s pivotal shots from last year’s tournament on Twitter.
Players to watch
Tony Finau – After a victory at the 2022 3M Open sparked back to back PGA Tour wins, Tony Finau is looking for a repeat of last season. Finau currently sits at No. 10 in the FedExCup rankings. While he has already punched his ticket to the postseason, a strong performance this week could see him enter the top five.
Justin Thomas – A rough stretch has seen Thomas miss four cuts in his last six starts. Due to the slow season, JT finds himself going into the event at No. 75 in the FedExCup rankings. This season, the top 70 players will have the opportunity to play in the playoffs. Keep an eye on him as he leaves it all on the course during the last two events of the season.
Hideki Matsuyama – An average season has seen Hideki miss just three cuts thus far. His efforts have put him in the middle of the pack at No. 54 in the FedExCup rankings. Another average finish would help him secure a trip to the postseason, but he is seeking more than that.
