Heading into the middle of the year, it is clear that Competitive Season 22 of Overwatch may be the last one of its kind. The reason being that Jeff Kaplan, in a Developer Update, announced that in Season 23, Competitive Open Queue would be coming to the game permanently. This means that people who don’t like 2-2-2 can go back to the way Overwatch used to be and grind the solo queue ladder there instead. During Competitive Season 22 they will have another period of time, probably in mid-June where it will be tested one more time. After this, he mentioned when Season 22 would be ending.
Overwatch Competitive Season 22 will be officially ending in early July. When looking at how the Overwatch team has done most of their patches and season in the past, it seems likely that this season will end on July 2. The past two seasons have also ended on a Thursday which is likely due to the team wanting it to start in time for people to play on the weekend. Also, July 2 would be exactly two months after Competitive Season 22 began.
With statements from the dev team stating that Echo would likely be the last hero in the original Overwatch, the only thing happening during this Season and even Season 23 will be major events. Upcoming ones are the Anniversary and Summer Games events. For more on Competitive Season 22 and Overwatch make sure to keep it here at The Game Haus.
