The Toronto Defiant added some more brainpower to their coaching room for the upcoming season this week. On Tuesday February 21, the Defiant announcing the addition of Eric “Wheats” Perez and Wang “Nohill” Fuxing to the coaching staff. The two coaches both have experience coaching in the Overwatch League, but return as assistants to the current Toronto HC Cas “Casores” Andel.
Wheats had his first stint in the Overwatch League in the 2020 season with the Vancouver Titans. He joined the Titans after the previous iteration had been unceremoniously released mid way through the season. He helped lead a team composed of his former Contenders players on Second Wind. The team struggled against the top half of the league, but managed to find some wins in that first year with the squad. Unfortunately he was let go in the 2021 offseason, where he would go on to coach American Tornado.

Nohill joined the OWL in 2022 with the Los Angeles Valiant after the team’s dreadful 2021 season. He had quite the feat ahead of him taking over the Valiant Head Coaching role as the team failed to win a single match in 2021. Nohill helped the team enter the competitive conversation once again, as the team finshed with a 7-17 record. Obviously not great, but still a massive improvement over the former roster.
The two now head to Toronto to shake off the poor performances of their past, and prove to the rest of the league that they are capable of success.
