Season 2 of the Overwatch League is fast approaching, and with it, a whole new season of possibilities and expectations. The teams will go back to facing each other like they used to and (hopefully) there will be a little more trash talking between them.
The off-season has been rough on some teams and easier on others. They have taken this time to revise their rosters and gear up for the upcoming challenges. And for Seoul Dynasty, we can say hasn’t been a walk in the park.
The team started thinning down quite a bit. Support player Jin-Woo “Gambler” Heo announced his retirement, tank Jin-Hyeok “Miro” Gong, flex Gi-Do “Gido” Moon, and DPS Seok-Woo “Wekeed” Choi were released from the team, tank Jae-Mo “Xepher” Koo was transferred to Florida Mayhem and tank Dae-Kuk “KuKi” Kim to Los Angeles Valiant.
On another note, there were also a big number of signings. Tanks Min-Hyuk “Michelle” Choi and Min-Seo “Marve1” Hwang, support Seung-Soo “Jecse” Lee, and DPS Dong-Eun “Fits” Kim make up the new additions to the team. There were also modifications for staff. Dong-Gun “KDG” Kim joined as head coach and Chang-Geun “Changgoon” Park as assistant coach, as well as coach Ju-Hyeop “Whynot” Lee. Then, one of the biggest and most unexpected transfers happened. After not playing during the playoffs with his former team, the LA Gladiators, Chan-Hyung “Fissure” Baek was announced to be joining the Dynasty.
That was everything the Dynasty has done up to now. But how will this roster work in the regular season? Only time will tell. We will, however, take a look at the games you cannot miss throughout the season!
Stage 1 – Los Angeles Gladiators
The match that could be Seoul Dynasty’s most important match in the whole season will apparently be their first. The day of Overwatch League’s Season 2 debut will feature a very important match.
Against the Los Angeles Gladiators, their loss of Fissure will be put to the test, and there’s no better way to do it than playing against him. Everything will be on the line for the local squad, as depending on the results of this match, it could set a precedent of what’s to come for them. Will they go back to the state they were in prior to adding Fissure, or will they be able to aim high and keep proving everyone wrong by staying at the top? Only time will tell.
The off-season was not that active for this team. They added the same amount of players as they released. New on the roster for this upcoming season, they’ll have Riku “Ripa” Toivanen, Chang-Hoon “Roar” Gye, Gui-Un “Decay” Jang, and lastly Byung-Ho “Panker” Lee, who is joining the Gladiators as part of a two-way contract.
Stage 2 – Vancouver Titans
One of the most hyped squads in all of Korean Contenders’ history will be facing off against the Dynasty on the second week of Stage 2.
The Vancouver Titans are one of the “new boys in town” this season, and with the roster they’re fielding, it’s easy to see why so much is on their shoulders. They managed to win the hearts of many fans throughout the years. And after all their effort, they achieved their dream of taking a major title in Overwatch, winning Contenders Korea Season 2.
Now in the Overwatch League, their fans will be coming with them, but the major question everyone is wondering is if they’ll be able to take the League by storm, like many are expecting, or will they take a fall like the Dynasty?
Stage 3 – Paris Eternal
There is another new team that has been the center of attention since their announcement as well. On week four, the Seoul Dynasty will face off against the expansion team, the Paris Eternal.
One of the major details about this team that surprised people, is that the roster they chose is completely European, and features some stars and faces we were used to seeing on different teams.
They possess a strong line of players, featuring supports Luís “Greyy” Perestrelo, Damien “Hyp” Souville, and Harrison “Kruise” Pond; tanks Benjamin “Benbest” Dieulafait, Finnbjörn “Finnsi” Jónasson, and Roni “LhCloudy” Tiihonen; and DPS Georgii “Shadowburn” Gushcha, Nicolas “Nicogdh” Moret, Karol “Danye” Szcześniak, and the star that made the Overwatch League community go wild, Terence “Soon” Tarlier. Who surprised everyone with the announcement that he was going to be leaving the Los Angeles Valiant.
Stage 4 – Philadelphia Fusion
By this point in time, the roster and the new players will have had plenty of experience working together and growing used to each other’s play styles, so that kind of worry is not necessary.
Stage 4 is going to be defining for many teams. Everyone will be fighting tooth and nail for a spot in the playoffs and the biggest teams will also be the biggest challenges. And what a challenge will the Philadelphia Fusion be on Stage 4’s week 4. Last year they reached the Grand Finals, and they’ll want to do it again.
This team’s off-season has been a really quiet one. Not a lot of changes happened. Georgii “Shadowburn” Gushcha, support Joe “Joemeister” Gramano and support Jeong-Hwan “Dayfly” Park were released and Hong-joon “HOTBA” Choi was transferred to the Guangzhou Charge. However Eli “Elk” Gallagher was signed and Elliot “Hayes” Hayes and Se-Hwi “NamedHwi” Go were named co-head coaches.
