Shanghai Dragons win 4-0
Following their first win in franchise history last week, the Shanghai Dragons were anxious to prove themselves as a team to be feared. The Chengdu Hunters, meanwhile, entered this match with the goal of challenging the meta and establishing new competitive strategies. While these unique strategies showed some promise at points, they were overall easily dealt with by an impressive performance by Shanghai.
Busan: Shanghai Dragons 2-1
The Chengdu Hunters emerged with a bit of a rough start. Menghan “Ameng” Ding’s Wrecking Ball was polarizing, carrying his team one minute and getting dumpstered the next. Ameng’s over-aggressive play left the rest of his teammates exposed to the Shanghai Dragons. While the map was close, the Hunters lost 2-1.
Numbani: Shanghai Dragons 3-2
On Numbani, the Hunters continued to use experimental, non-standard team compositions. Yi “JinMu” Hu played a variety of heroes to varying degrees of effect. Unfortunately, the Shanghai Dragons were able to harass the Hunters’ backline several times. Without their supports, the rest of the team were easily picked off.
Volskaya Industries: Shanghai Dragons 5-4
The Chengdu Hunters decided to play a Pharah/Mercy based composition with Ameng still on Wrecking Ball. While JinMu managed to perform exceptionally well, Ameng played so aggressively that he often lacked the support of his team and died early. The Shanghai Dragons continued to exploit Ameng’s positioning errors to take the series.
Dorado: Shanghai Dragons 2-1
Similar to the rest of the series, Ameng continued to rush in before the rest of the Hunters. He was repeatedly eliminated, and didn’t seem to be in sync with the rest of his team. Without a main tank, the Shanghai Dragons made short work of the Hunters and took the fourth map.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the Chengdu Hunters unusual strategies require lots of coordination to pull off. When the team is not synchronized, victory is nearly impossible. However, when the Hunters did manage to coordinate their attacks, they often succeeded. If the Hunters can improve their coordination and rein in their aggression, the stage playoffs are a very real possibility.
