The Washington Football Team will announce its new name on February 2, 2022. They have been owned the name “Washington Football Team” after July, 2020 when the racist “Redskins” moniker they had played under since 1937 was retired.
ESPN’s Field Yates reported the news via Twitter on Tuesday.

Washington’s Jason Wright has already announced that it will not be two fan favorite options; Wolves or RedWolves. He also said that Wolves was nixed due to other teams having “Wolves” branding and struggles with trademarking.
The Football Team’s new moniker will not use “Warriors” or any other First Nations inspiration to distance itself from being named the “Redskins” for so long. There are multiple fan-submitted options, many of them taking inspiration from the nation’s capital which the team represents. These include “Presidents” and “Generals,” among others.
