The Tennessee Titans are the latest team to unveil a “new” uniform. Along with the Jets and Seahawks, the Titans are turning back the clock with throwback uniforms. They are modeled after the team’s former branding, when they were called the Houston Oilers.
PFF’s Ari Meirov reported the news via Twitter on Monday.
The Houston Oilers existed from 1960-1996, moving to Tennessee in 1997. The team remained under the “Oilers” branding for just two seasons before being renamed to the Tennessee Titans in 1999. Houston wouldn’t regain an NFL team until 2002, when the Texans were founded.
Tennessee will reportedly wear these throwback uniforms twice next season, both for home games. They also wanted to wear them during a road game (in Miami against the Dolphins), but it doesn’t seem as if that will happen.
